The latest report by the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) indicates that the 50th commercial 5G network has now been launched, following the activation of 5G services in China. All the three state-backed telecom operators, China Unicom, China Mobile and China Telecom have launched next-gen networks and have already registered more than 9 million 5G subscribers. The GSA 5G Market Snapshot marks this deployment as the 50th commercial roll out of a 5G network. Ofcom announces another 5G spectrum auction for the UK in spring 2020 Britain’s telecommunications regulator Ofcom has confirmed that it plans to hold an auction for low and mid band 5G spectrum in the spring of 2020. In a statement, Ofcom said that the auction will include companies bidding for spectrum in two different frequency bands: 80 MHz in the 700 MHz band and 120 MHz in the 3.6-3.8 GHz band. Entegro, an Irish tech company which designs and deploys fiber and hybrid gigabit networks, has announced the opening of its new Fiber Network Design Centre of Excellence. Based in the Danville Business Park on the edge of Kilkenny City, Ireland, the company’s new facility is set to create 50 jobs over the next 18 months. Currently employing 100 people, Entegro said it has immediate vacancies for planning and design, fiber planning, GIS and other engineers. “We’ve nine different nationalities working on our 100-strong team here in Kilkenny, at our Dublin hub and in the UK,” said Fintan Shortall, Director of Business Development at Entegro. “From our headquarters in Kilkenny we’re building networks across Ireland, the UK and into the US. Avaya, an American tech company specializing in unified business communications, and RingCentral, a provider of cloud-based communications for small businesses and enterprise companies, have announced a strategic partnership for a new cloud offering worth at least USD 500 million. RingCentral’s multi-million contribution includes a one-time USD 125 million preferred equity investment and a USD 375 million advance to Avaya for selling the RingCentral unified communications as-a-service (UCaaS) solution in selected countries.
