Deutsche Telekom has selected Google Cloud for its first cloud-native trials in network and data analytics. The operator expanded its partnership with Google Cloud to develop a collaborative roadmap for the telecoms sector by bringing the power of the cloud closer to mobile and connected devices at the network’s edge. The initial phase of this extended Deutsche Telekom and Google Cloud relationship will focus on core network services, network analytics and customer experience analytics. Deutsche Telekom and Google Cloud will jointly test a range of network services in Austria, including 5G standalone and remote packet gateway operations, using Google Cloud and Google Distributed Cloud Edge. In order to leverage data-driven operations and automated workflows with open, Kubernetes-based solutions provided by Google Cloud, Deutsche Telekom will explore a number of use cases including anomaly detection, performance counters and trace data. The operator will be able to better manage…

The UK’s first live wind and solar-powered mobile phone mast has been activated in Pembrokeshire (Wales) by Vodafone UK. The self-powered mast will provide 4G service to the community of Eglwyswrw and will be powered by a wind turbine, solar panels and on-site battery storage. The new mast contributes to Vodafone’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2027 for its UK operations. The mast is meant to eliminate the requirement for a connection to the national energy grid, a strategy that will assist in delivering connectivity in rural and distant places that are now without those critical services. The mast is equipped with a one-of-a-kind wind turbine that can generate electricity even in low wind conditions and can be deployed without the need for electrical connections. This infrastructure is also extremely quiet, making it ideal for installation in sensitive locations. The study is being carried out…
Intrado Corporation, a global supplier of technology-enabled services, has launched Intrado Power Access, a cloud-based solution designed to make operations at Public Safety Answering Points (“PSAPs”) more accessible, dynamic and cost-effective. As Next Generation 911 (NG911) becomes a reality, PSAPs are increasing their capabilities and preparing for an increase in delivered services and requests for assistance from a vast, ever-growing number of sources enabled by 5G communications and the Internet of Things (IoT). To tackle these difficulties, Intrado has enhanced its established emergency communications systems with additional features that are included in the Intrado Life & Safety cloud environment. Power Access, which is based on Intrado’s trusted emergency response software solutions that have served public safety for over 40 years, enables Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) to initiate the transaction at any starting point and proceed at a pace they can support. Power Access includes a browser-based…
One of the most important lessons society has learned from being stranded at home and unable to travel during a pandemic, is that once carbon emissions fall, the benefits materialize remarkably quickly. What have telecommunications providers learned during this time? That due to the staggering demand for digital communications at this time, the global telecom infrastructure has been forced to consume more energy than ever before, increasing the carbon footprint.
Nokia, DOCOMO, Fujitsu, NEC, and NTT have established a collaboration to design and develop critical 6G technologies. In proof-of-concept (POC) experiments, next-generation mobile technologies will be focused on the sub-terahertz band and AI-enabled interfaces. The partnership will concentrate on two proof-of-concepts for upcoming 6G technologies: an AI native air interface and sub-THz radio access. These seek to prove that an AI-based 6G air interface outperforms a traditional air interface in terms of performance, and that high-data-rate beamformed access can be obtained in a high frequency band at 140 GHz. Nokia thinks that 6G will not only improve on existing technologies and systems, but will also expand and revolutionize the capabilities of a network. It will bring together the human, physical, and computer realms in order to unleash the full human potential. Nokia has identified six important technologies that will be critical components of future 6G networks in order…
