Verizon Business has announced that it will provide a variety of network connectivity options to Siemens, a German global technology business, in order to maintain the security of its employees’ devices and data. The solutions will provide Siemens employees in smaller office locations with a smooth “plug and play” user experience while emphasizing security and zero trust principles. Siemens’ zero-trust initiative demands that all employee devices be verified, approved and continually checked before access to mission-critical applications and data is granted or retained. Verizon Business will implement an “internet only” connection, such as a global Managed Wide Area Network based on Cisco Meraki technology, which is vital to the success of the Siemens’ “never trust, always verify” program. According to Sanjiv Gossain, EMEA Vice President, Verizon Business, an intelligent network may make underlying architectures more agile by controlling traffic and improving operational efficiency. He noted that while every…

Chinese government-backed hackers have attacked major telecoms businesses throughout the world in a cyber-espionage effort that has lasted at least two years and has successfully compromised at least 13 telecommunications groups.   In a recent advisory, the FBI, NSA and CISA stated that hackers linked to the People’s Republic of China (PRC) had targeted and hacked major telecommunications businesses by exploiting simple and well-known network and system vulnerabilities.   According to the report, Chinese espionage is often initiated with hackers surveying target networks and exploring the manufacturers, models, versions, and known vulnerabilities of routers and networking equipment using open-source scanning tools such as RouterSploit and RouterScan. The Chinese government consistently disputes charges of hacking.   The statement from the American security agencies did not name the victims of the hacking, nor did it specify the extent of the damage. However, US authorities did list specific networking equipment, such as routers…

The GSMA, a worldwide organization dedicated to uniting the mobile ecosystem, has cautioned that market imbalances between network operators and online service providers might impede growth in a number of areas of the Internet-based economy, and has urged policymakers to solve the problem immediately.    According to the GSMA’s 2022 Internet Value Chain analysis, asymmetric regulation and limits, sector-specific taxes and spectrum charges are straining infrastructure providers’ business models while allowing big tech to prosper.   The reliance of Internet services and other growing sectors that are dependent on underlying infrastructure investment must be considered by those in charge of enacting rules and regulations. Infrastructure investment incentives may be restrained by unfavorable taxes, costly regulatory requirements, and other cost-degrading factors, according to the paper. The document urges politicians to analyze the entire tax and regulatory environment, ensuring that enterprises investing in infrastructure are rewarded for building and upgrading the networks…
