Microsoft has announced the launch of a new phone system for business customers, Microsoft 365 Business Voice, which is now available in Canada and the UK. This phone system combines calling, chats, meetings, calendar and e-mail functions. The solution also deploys Microsoft artificial intelligence (AI) technology to automatically transcribe voicemail, translate chat messages, and add captions to meetings in real time. According to the announcement, Microsoft 365 Business Voice is a cloud-based system that has been designed as a complete cooperation package for enterprises with up to 300 users. China’s leading technology group Huawei has unveiled its new office based at Salford’s MediaCityUK complex in Greater Manchester. This is the company’s first major facility in the North West of England, as Huawei is set to expand its 5G operations and boost the local tech economy in the region. The new office will run several key business operations including the Network Design Centre, Delivery Operations Centre for the north of the UK, and customer account teams. According to Huawei, the MediaCityUK complex has earned a reputation as an international center for technology, innovation and creativity. Commsworld, a telecoms and network company based in Edinburgh, Scotland is now connected to all major Internet Exchanges (IX) in the UK, following an investment of over GBP 1 million. The company has set up a new core presence at the AQL’s Salem Church data centre in Leeds and has joined the IXLeeds (Leeds Internet Exchange). As a result, Commsworld has become the only organization to connect to all of the country’s Internet Exchanges and provide local businesses with speeds of up to 10 Gbps. 5G will be available for trial in seven cities across the UK. Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, and London were selected to run the tests on the upcoming network. Those new infrastructures will be running the new 5G at the end of 2018 between October and December. Earlier this year, Vodafone paid £378 million, to get 50Mhz of the 3.4GHz spectrum. Nick Jeffery, Vodafone’s chief executive stated, “We want to make 5G and new fibre broadband services available to consumers and business throughout the UK, delivering a Gigabit society for all. We will also be bringing ultra-fast 4G to several hundred sites in hard to reach rural areas this year, building on our position as the network that offers the best voice coverage in the UK.” Vodafone’s goal is to launch a full 5G service in the UK by 2020, when 5G devices will be available on the market.
