Rogers to bring 5G to the Toronto subway system

Rogers Communications Inc. has announced plans to offer full 5G connections to Toronto’s subway system, including 911 access for all users. The telecom corporation has agreed to buy BAI Canada. BAI has had exclusive rights to establish the Toronto Transit Commission wireless network since 2012. Rogers will now be able to make the investments needed to develop a comprehensive and reliable 5G network for the entire TTC subway system as a result of this transaction. 5G network construction is projected to take about two years. Rogers will collaborate with the TTC on a phased deployment strategy, including network design, architecture, and rollout logistics, for both network enhancements and growth in stations, concourses, and all subway tunnels. According to the letter, the steps are intended to minimize operational impact on C-Band operations and support full-power deployments across the C-Band spectrum. In the past, airlines have resisted the introduction of C-band spectrum for 5G services due to concerns over interference with aircraft altimeters. Verizon wins a $2.4 billion FAA contract for system upgrades

Verizon has been awarded a $2.4 billion contract to update the US Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) telecommunications and information management systems. If all options are exercised, this agreement, which represents fresh business for the corporation, will last 15 years. The deal was awarded under the FAA Enterprise Network Services (FENS) procurement program, which replaces the old FAA Telecommunications Infrastructure (FTI) contract system. Harris Corp., who was previously in possession of the FTI award, lost the contract. In addition to network access for administrative information systems such as email, payroll and online training, Verizon will offer telecommunications, information management services, network connectivity and other capabilities. Nokia has released an update to its AVA Energy efficiency software, which now features improved algorithms and power-saving strategies, allowing communication service providers (CSPs) to achieve significant reductions in electricity use in their networks. The enhanced Nokia AVA Energy efficiency tool’s improved machine learning algorithms will allow CSPs to reduce power usage in their data centers, as well as network base stations, batteries and air conditioning units in telecom networks. Based on customer testing, Nokia AVA Energy efficiency software can reduce power use by up to 30%, which is an increase of around 10% from the original program. GPT-4 is the latest artificial intelligence (AI) model produced by OpenAI, a San Francisco-based research lab. The AI model, which is intended to improve deep learning, is available to paying OpenAI users via ChatGPT Plus with a usage cap. Developers may join a waitlist to gain access to the API.
