Verizon customers break data usage record during Super Bowl LVII

During Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona, Verizon customers broke the company’s data use record. On game day, 60% of the 67,827 spectators used Verizon’s cellular network, consuming 47.8TB of data in and around State Farm Stadium. This statistic reflects a 36% increase in data use over Super Bowl LVI in 2022. The highest data use surges happened during the halftime performance and during kickoff. The network’s peak download rates reached 4,200Mbps, while the median download speeds were 2,300Mbps. A team of 100 Verizon engineers operated the Network Command Center 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide a dependable network experience for spectators, first responders and public safety teams. Zoom, the video conferencing powerhouse that had explosive growth during the COVID-19 pandemic, has disclosed that 15% of its workforce, or around 1,300 workers, will be let go. The company’s CEO, Eric Yuan, attributed the need to reduce staff expenses to the company’s previously accelerated hiring during the pandemic and the unpredictability of the global economy. The number of staff at Zoom increased by more than 275% between July 2019 and October 2022, reaching 8,422 employees. China Mobile and Ericsson have announced the launch of two energy-efficient 5G sites in China as part of their efforts to conserve energy and reduce carbon emissions. The Ericsson Smart Site offers new levels of quality assurance, the intelligent administration of various energy sources, full-stack real-time monitoring, and intelligent energy and service synergy. The initial facility, located in Jiangsu Province, runs on the 700MHz frequency and emits no carbon dioxide. The second facility, in Guangdong, operates on the 2.6GHz frequency. Viasat awarded $325 Million SOCOM contract extension

Viasat, a leading global communications company, has announced that it has been awarded a contract extension worth up to $325 million over a five-year period by the US Special Operations Command (SOCOM). This indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract is an extension of a previous IDIQ contract worth $350 million that was awarded to Viasat in 2017. T-Mobile targets Comcast Xfinity customers with a bold campaign

T-Mobile has engaged in a marketing campaign called “Make Xfinity Your Ex” that aims to convince Comcast Xfinity customers to switch to T-Mobile’s fixed wireless access (FWA) 5G Home and Business Internet service. As part of the campaign, a T-Mobile billboard truck has been driving circles around Comcast’s headquarters in Philadelphia for 25 hours, playing a video that highlights Comcast’s price hikes over the years.
