In a pioneering initiative, passengers traveling on a high-speed rail route in Southern China are now enjoying faster and more reliable 5G connectivity, thanks to the innovative use of digital twin technology. ZTE and China Mobile’s Yunnan Branch have collaboratively developed a detailed 3D model of the railway’s surrounding infrastructure, significantly enhancing network performance along the challenging terrain of the KunchuDali railway.

China Mobile showcased its decade of Network Function Virtualization (NFV) innovations at the recent MWC Shanghai, demonstrating how this swift, stealthy technology is redefining the telecommunications landscape. NFV, simplifying network operations by converting physical services into virtual ones, offers benefits like operational efficiency and cost reduction. China Mobile and Ericsson have announced the launch of two energy-efficient 5G sites in China as part of their efforts to conserve energy and reduce carbon emissions. The Ericsson Smart Site offers new levels of quality assurance, the intelligent administration of various energy sources, full-stack real-time monitoring, and intelligent energy and service synergy.   The initial facility, located in Jiangsu Province, runs on the 700MHz frequency and emits no carbon dioxide. The second facility, in Guangdong, operates on the 2.6GHz frequency. Both locations employ Ericsson’s power system, which optimizes the usage of energy from solar, grid and battery sources to provide the most energy-efficient operation possible. Nokia and China Mobile trial 5G RAN AI Nokia and China Mobile have announced that they have successfully tested Nokia’s RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) over China Mobile’s 5G network. As alluded to in the name of the Nokia product, the focus is less on RAN itself, but more on its automated control, thereby eliminating expensive human labor from the process. The latest report by the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) indicates that the 50th commercial 5G network has now been launched, following the activation of 5G services in China. All the three state-backed telecom operators, China Unicom, China Mobile and China Telecom have launched next-gen networks and have already registered more than 9 million 5G subscribers. The GSA 5G Market Snapshot marks this deployment as the 50th commercial roll out of a 5G network. Joe Barrett, the President of the GSA, said, “I think that we have all been surprised by how quickly 5G has taken off, with deployments and commitments from across the globe gathering pace.
