A historic milestone for the Canadian telecommunications sector was realized as Rogers Communications Inc. announced it had successfully concluded its merger with Shaw Communications Inc. The merger unites two famous Canadian companies that have been connecting Canadians for over five decades. The merger creates a coast-to-coast nationwide company which has fiber-powered internet that is accessible to nearly 70% of Canadian households. The newly combined company plans to bundle more products and services, including internet, television, phone, smart home monitoring, wireless services, credit card offers and sports and media content. In the next five years, the company intends to spend billions of dollars to offer fast, reliable networks in additional towns across Western Canada. NTT DoCoMo partners with Ericsson and Keysight on 6G NTT DoCoMo has announced the expansion of its experimental 6G trials, for which it has teamed with Ericsson and Keysight. The collaboration with Ericsson will concentrate on new 6G wireless interfaces for frequencies ranging from 6 to 15 GHz, as well as the sub-TeraHertz band, which encompasses frequencies exceeding 100 GHz. For the first time in over 60 years, Nokia, the Finnish manufacturer of telecom equipment, has unveiled its redesigned logo and brand identity. This shift underlines Nokia’s focus on fast expansion and its move away from the smartphone market towards corporate technologies.   The new logo is made up of five distinct forms that create the word NOKIA, with the customary blue color of the previous logo being replaced with a variety of colors depending on the application. Nokia’s CEO, Pekka Lundmark, stated that the company’s focus had switched from selling equipment to telecom operators, to selling equipment to enterprises.   The company intends to expand its service provider business, although its primary focus is currently on selling equipment to non-telecom businesses. During Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona, Verizon customers broke the company’s data use record. On game day, 60% of the 67,827 spectators used Verizon’s cellular network, consuming 47.8TB of data in and around State Farm Stadium. This statistic reflects a 36% increase in data use over Super Bowl LVI in 2022.    The highest data use surges happened during the halftime performance and during kickoff. The network’s peak download rates reached 4,200Mbps, while the median download speeds were 2,300Mbps. A team of 100 Verizon engineers operated the Network Command Center 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide a dependable network experience for spectators, first responders and public safety teams.   In preparation for the game, Verizon committed more than $100 million in network improvements and enhancements in and around State Farm Stadium and the surrounding Phoenix region. Telia Company, a Swedish telecommunications operator, has announced changes to its top management that will put sustainability at the forefront of the company’s agenda.   In March, Ola Rembe, a former executive at Ericsson, will become Senior Vice President and Head of Communications, Brand and Sustainability at Telia. This newly created position combines these different roles for the first time.   When it comes to sustainability, Telia is regarded as one of the telecom companies with more progressive thinking. The corporation has established specific goals to achieve a value chain that will be  carbon neutral by 2030 by at least halving greenhouse gas emissions and offsetting the remainder.   In addition, Telia has mandated that its suppliers set science-based goals, and last year it was disclosed that 29% of the suppliers participating in  its supply chain emissions had already done so, with a further 21% in the process of receiving…
