Zoom, the video conferencing powerhouse that had explosive growth during the COVID-19 pandemic, has disclosed that 15% of its workforce, or around 1,300 workers, will be let go. The company’s CEO, Eric Yuan, attributed the need to reduce staff expenses to the company’s previously accelerated hiring during the pandemic and the unpredictability of the global economy.   The number of staff at Zoom increased by more than 275% between July 2019 and October 2022, reaching 8,422 employees. Many companies and schools depended on Zoom to keep their operations running at the peak of the pandemic; however, with lockdowns becoming rare events and the rise of “Zoom fatigue,” the corporation has struggled to continue its growth.   Zoom’s market cap peaked at $150 billion in late 2020, but has since dropped to roughly $24 billion. Juniper Networks, a supplier of secure, AI-driven networks, announced that Virgin Media O2, one of the UK’s major fixed and mobile service providers, has updated its IP core backbone network in conjunction with  Juniper. The upgraded network can accommodate 800G and is part of Virgin Media O2’s long-term strategy to invest in sustainable infrastructure capable of supporting continuous data growth and bandwidth needs. Ericsson has announced the sale of its unprofitable Internet of Things (IoT) division to Aeris Communications, an IoT solutions supplier.   The Swedish telecom equipment provider claimed that the transaction, which covers its IoT Accelerator and Connected Vehicle Cloud operations, will end the businesses’ past quarter-to-quarter losses of almost $24 million.   Over 9,000 businesses use Ericsson’s IoT Accelerator to handle 22 million eSIM connections and over 95 million connected devices worldwide. For worldwide IoT cellular connectivity, these businesses and relationships make use of Ericsson’s current network of over 35 communications service provider partners.   The Connected Vehicle Cloud business, in the meantime, is said to be the most comprehensive connected car platform available today, with automotive IoT leaders utilizing this service to connect over six million vehicles across 180 countries.   More than 100 million IoT devices will be connected across 190 countries using Aeris and Ericsson’s combined IoT…

The Orange subsidiary, Orange Cyberdefense, has purchased all of the shares of SCRT and Telsys, two Swiss businesses. These two sister companies, which have operations in Geneva and Bern, together with a joint headquarters in Morges, near Lausanne, employ over 100 professionals with expertise in cybersecurity and related services.   The growth of Orange Cyberdefense is a strategic goal for the Orange Group as it seeks to position itself as a top European cybersecurity business. The purchases, according to Orange, would strengthen the group’s cyberdefense business, which intends to generate 1 billion euros in revenue next year. The financial terms of this deal have not been disclosed.   Currently, Orange Cyberdefense operates in nine countries, including France, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.   With the acquisition of SCRT and Telsys, Orange Cyberdefense is now able to provide around-the-clock local assistance to Swiss organizations.…
