Nokia and Ericsson to leave the Russian market

Ericsson has ceased operations in Russia in order to comply with international sanctions imposed in the weeks following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Nokia, too, has announced its intention to abandon the Russian market, having already ceased supplies and begun to relocate R&D out of the country. However, Nokia intends to continue supporting the maintenance of current equipment on humanitarian grounds. Over the years, Ericsson has collaborated with a number of Russian mobile providers. The company recently formed a strategic relationship with MTS to create private 5G networks, as well as the testing and implementing next-generation technology with the operator. Ericsson has said that it will indefinitely cease relevant operations with Russian clients. The vendor also stated that it is in discussions with customers and partners, and that staff in Russia have been placed on paid leave. In Russia, Ericsson employs around 600 people. Verizon and Google Cloud have launched a new collaboration initiative. The corporations will join to deliver the power of the cloud closer to mobile and connected devices operating at the edge of Verizon’s network. With this new agreement, Verizon now interoperates with all three main cloud providers: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud. GSA membership boosted by nine new regulators and vendors

The Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA), a non-profit industry organization representing mobile industry suppliers worldwide, has expanded its membership by welcoming nine new companies from the global 4G and 5G mobile ecosystem. The GSA said that it has so far accepted Approve-IT as a new ordinary member together with eight new associate members, including the French telecom regulator ARCEP and the Singaporean regulator IMDA. In March 2020, the association also extended its Executive Committee by adding ZTE as an executive member along with Ericsson, Huawei, Intel, Nokia, Qualcomm and Samsung.
