SoftBank, a Japanese corporation, has announced the creation of an expanded evergreen fund dedicated solely to supporting Black, Latinx and Native American entrepreneurs in the United States. SoftBank’s $100 million Opportunity Growth Fund for underrepresented founders was announced in June 2020, and this pledge is a continuation of that fund.   Up till now, the initiative has  already benefited 70 businesses. About 55% of the first portfolio firms were formed by Black people, 40% by Latino people, and 5% by Black and Latino people. Telefonica partners with Meta A new agreement between Meta and Telefonica has been inked to create a Metaverse Innovation Hub in Madrid. Local startups and developers will have access to a 5G laboratory inside the Hub, where they will be able to use a metaverse end-to-end testbed using Meta and Telefonica’s networks and equipment. The hub’s goal is to test innovative network topologies, use cases and devices in order to speed metaverse network and device readiness. Lleida.net, a technology services firm, has secured a new deal with the Spanish telecoms giant Telefonica Global Solutions (TGS) to deliver a broad range of SaaS services to TGS customers around the world.   Registered SMS, Registered email, and Lleida.net platforms such as Click & Sign and Openum are all part of SaaS services. Under the terms of the agreement, Lleida.net will deliver SaaS services to TGS clients in Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Uruguay, Mexico, Brazil, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Chile. Verizon and Google Cloud have launched a new collaboration initiative. The corporations will join to deliver the power of the cloud closer to mobile and connected devices operating at the edge of Verizon’s network.
