In a groundbreaking development, Cisco has announced the successful transmission of data at speeds of 800Gbps across the Amitié transatlantic cable. Stretching 6,234 kilometers from Boston, Massachusetts, to Bordeaux, France, this achievement marks a significant advancement in the capacity of subsea network cables, driven by the burgeoning demands of cloud computing and AI technologies.

Cisco’s Webex, a leading unified communications and collaboration platform, has become the first of its kind to achieve adherence to the EU Cloud Code of Conduct (EU Cloud CoC) Level 3. This significant milestone was reached after undergoing an independent third-party assessment and audit, which verified the platform’s compliance with all code controls.

NTT and Cisco collaborate in launching IoT solutions as a managed service, targeting sectors like manufacturing and healthcare. Combining expertise, they aim to enhance security, decision-making, and lower operational costs. With repeatable solutions, faster deployment and predictable benefits are possible, but customization is still necessary for unique requirements.

Spectrum Enterprise, a division of Charter Communications, Inc., has introduced Secure Access with Cisco Duo and Cloud Security with Cisco+ Secure Connect to its cybersecurity product portfolio. These two additions allow companies to offer safe and secure access to information and applications on private networks or public clouds to employees and other stakeholders. The new cybersecurity protections are integrated with the company’s managed network services portfolio, which includes Managed Network Edge and Enterprise Network Edge solutions. Managed Network Edge and Enterprise Network Edge are modular, all-in-one platforms that simplify the deployment and management of an organization’s network.  While each platform offers slightly different features, both provide routing, SD-WAN, switching, security, remote access, and LAN options. Layering on Secure Access with Cisco Duo and Cloud Security with Cisco+ Secure Connect provides clients with the full protection of a secure access service edge (SASE). Secure Access with Cisco Duo helps protect organizations…

According to Cisco’s first-ever Cybersecurity Readiness Index, just 15% of global organizations are rated to have the ‘Mature’ level of preparation required to be resistant to current cybersecurity hazards. The index illustrates where organizations are succeeding in cybersecurity preparedness and where deficiencies may worsen if global business and security leaders do not act.   The analysis assesses a company’s ability to sustain cybersecurity resilience in the face of new threats, and includes 19 distinct solutions across five basic pillars: identity, devices, networks, application workloads and data. In a poll of 6,700 private sector cybersecurity leaders from 27 markets, participants were questioned as to which of these technologies they had installed and the current stage of deployment. Businesses were then divided into four readiness stages: beginner, formative, progressive and mature.   More than half (55%) of companies polled worldwide are in the Beginner (8%) or Formative (47%) stages of cybersecurity readiness,…

Cisco has released a sneak peek at its next-generation hybrid work collaboration tool. Webex Hologram is the industry’s first real-time meeting solution that combines feature-packed Webex meeting capabilities with immersive 3D holograms using augmented reality headgear.   Webex Hologram is a solution that will add augmented reality to the company’s collaboration platform. Webex Hologram claims to produce lifelike, real-time holograms of actual people when used with AR headsets like Magic Leap and Microsoft HoloLens.   This innovative technology provides a “1 to many” presenter experience, which allows for remote involvement from several users. In contrast to other services that restrict usage to fixed angle views, all users can now concurrently enjoy a multi-dimensional experience. The presenter may communicate using both physical and digital content using Webex Hologram, allowing participants to co-create and actually interact.   Jeetu Patel, executive vice president and general manager, Cisco Security and Collaboration, commented: “Webex Hologram…

Enterprise networking and security leader Cisco, has unveiled a new, expanded Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) offering. This is a step for Cisco towards radically simplifying security and networking by helping network operations (NetOps) and security operations (SecOps) teams securely connect users to applications.   Cisco delivers the capacity to purchase all of the key components of a SASE product in a one-stop offering, making it easy to transition to a single subscription service in the future. Cisco provides all key elements of the SASE architecture, including best-in-class networking, remote access, cloud security, zero trust network access, and observability. Cisco aims to incorporate these components into a single subscription service and provide seamless, secure access to any application on any network or cloud, wherever end users are located.   According to Cisco, the reason for combining all SASE components into one package is that it allows companies a shorter time-to-market.…

Cisco, a global giant and provider of IT, networking and cybersecurity solutions, has announced that it has received the final regulatory approval for a $4.5 billion agreement to purchase Acacia. The merger was reportedly approved by the Chinese government’s State Market Regulatory Administration (SAMR) on Tuesday. The consent from SAMR was the last hurdle to clear for Cisco to complete the deal.   Cisco’s plans to acquire Acacia Communications were first announced in July of 2019. The deal was on a fully diluted basis to buy the company for $70 per share in cash for a total of $2.6 billion. Cisco had then received the regulatory go-ahead from the United States, Germany and Austria.   Cisco has received the approval under certain conditions. According to SAMR, the deal could progress as long as Cisco and Acacia continue to fulfill existing contracts in China, as well as supply Chinese companies in…
