By 2026, the global market for A2P SMS is expected to be worth $74.7 billion. The rising usage of customer and employee engagement by large and medium-sized businesses around the world is expected to fuel this growth in the global market.   A2P messaging, also known as application-to-person messaging, describes any type of traffic in which a person receives messages from an application. This type of communication is often referred to as professional or enterprise messaging, and  generally consists of one-way messages that do not require a response. Given that over 98% of text messages are opened, A2P messages are very likely to be read, providing businesses with a cost-effective option for improving customer interaction.    A2P SMS is used by a wide range of companies and industries to send messages to customers, including banking notifications, marketing notifications, two-factor authentication SMS authorizations, automated booking confirmations, as well as to deliver…

Vodafone and Iliad are in negotiations to merge their respective businesses in Italy. Such a merger would provide advantages for both corporations in one of Europe’s most competitive markets and should be positive for the industry in general.   Discussions between the two corporations are ongoing, and both sides are actively looking for ways to connect their separate businesses together in Italy. If the merger is approved, it will create a telecommunications giant with over 36% mobile market penetration and combined sales of nearly $6.80 billion. Vodafone and The Iliad both declined to comment on the negotiations.   The talks take place as the local incumbent, Telecom Italia, continues to evaluate a $12.25 billion acquisition offer from US investor KKR aimed at taking Italy’s largest phone business private.   Industry leaders have frequently recommended the pursuit of four-to-three telecom mergers, which may generate cost synergies and boost margins by reducing…

Robocalls threaten people’s privacy and tarnish the reputation of the telecoms industry by subjecting subscribers to unwanted and intrusive telemarketing and scam practices. In 2021, American customers received an estimated 50,507,702,500 robocalls, which is nearly 10% more than the 45.9 billion robocalls received in 2020.   YouMail, a free robocall prevention program and call protection service for mobile phones, provided the most recent statistics.   Americans received nearly 3.6 billion robocalls in December 2021 alone, with an average of 115.1 million calls each day and 1,332 calls every second. Scam calls declined by 4% in December, while telemarketing calls decreased by 18%, payment reminders decreased by 18%, and alerts and reminders decreased by 11%. On the whole, the scam category topped the list for the year, accounting for about 30 billion scam or spam calls, or slightly under 60% of all calls, a sizable amount of presumably unwelcome calls. While…
