NowSecure raises $15 million to power up its mobile security software

NowSecure, a Chicago-based mobile security startup that helps businesses test the safety of their applications, has raised USD 15 million in a Series B round led by ForgePoint Capital, a fund that invests exclusively in cybersecurity companies. As a result of this round, the total amount of NowSecure funding to date is USD 27 million. The funding comes as cybersecurity threats remain a constant and high priority issue for businesses, and NowSecure said it will use this money to accelerate the development of its security testing products and scale operations. Truecaller rolls out in-app VoIP calling feature

Developers at the Swedish company True Software have added yet another feature to their application Truecaller, that is best known for helping users screen calls from strangers, spammers and robocallers. This feature is called Truecaller Voice and promises “high quality (HD), low latency and quick to connect audio calls” to both Android and iOS users. The Stockholm-based company said the app will also allow its users in emerging markets, such as India, to place free VoIP-powered voice calls using mobile data or Wi-Fi. EllaLink Ireland Ltd (EllaLink) has announced the appointment of the former Sparkle CEO Alessandro Talotta, and Alberto Horcajo, who has held senior positions at Telefonica’s Telxius, to its Board of Directors. Telesat delivers the world’s first 5G backhaul demo over LEO satellite

Global satellite operator Telesat, the Vodafone Group and the University of Surrey in the UK, have successfully accomplished the world’s first 5G backhaul demonstration deploying a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) communications satellite. This successful trial demonstrates that LEO satellites are able to provide efficient backhaul transport channels for mobile network operators (MNOs), including for 5G advanced services. During the live test conducted by these partners in April, Telesat’s Phase 1 LEO satellite was connected to the University of Surrey’s 5G testbed network, with the support of specialist Vodafone engineers. Vodafone also provided some funding and arranged licensing for the demonstration system.
