Meta was fined €265 million by Irish regulators on Monday. This is the company’s latest penalty for violating rigorous European Union data privacy regulations.    According to the Data Protection Commission (DPC), Meta Platforms Inc. violated parts of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which require technological and organizational measures to secure user data.   The authority began looking into press reports that user data for more than 533 million people was discovered to have been leaked online last year. This information was detected on a website for hackers, and includes names, Facebook IDs, phone numbers, residences, birthdates and email addresses of individuals from more than 100 different countries.   The DPC investigation discovered that Meta’s Facebook Search, Facebook Messenger Contact Importer and Instagram Contact Importer capabilities did not adhere to GDPR rules between May 25, 2018 and September 19, 2019.   According to Meta, the information was “scraped”…

Vodafone and WWF have announced a new relationship that will advance the communications company’s net-zero goal for 2040, while enhancing the circular economy through the collecting and recycling of smartphones. The program is a component of Vodafone’s three-year alliance with WWF, with initiatives being focused on assisting customers to make more environmentally friendly decisions.   The “One million phones for the planet” campaign went live on November 22nd, 2022 in support of Vodafone’s circularity and net-zero goals. The new project contributes to Vodafone’s goal of reusing, reselling or recycling 100% of its network waste. Additionally, it will accelerate progress toward the company’s flagship net-zero goal.   Customers in Europe and Africa will be encouraged to trade in their outdated mobile devices for repair, refurbishment or recycling. The Orange subsidiary, Orange Cyberdefense, has purchased all of the shares of SCRT and Telsys, two Swiss businesses. These two sister companies, which have operations in Geneva and Bern, together with a joint headquarters in Morges, near Lausanne, employ over 100 professionals with expertise in cybersecurity and related services.   The growth of Orange Cyberdefense is a strategic goal for the Orange Group as it seeks to position itself as a top European cybersecurity business. The purchases, according to Orange, would strengthen the group’s cyberdefense business, which intends to generate 1 billion euros in revenue next year. The financial terms of this deal have not been disclosed.   Currently, Orange Cyberdefense operates in nine countries, including France, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.   With the acquisition of SCRT and Telsys, Orange Cyberdefense is now able to provide around-the-clock local assistance to Swiss organizations.…

Deutsche Telekom leads the new 6G project The research initiative is a part of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research’s “6G Industry Projects for Research into Integrated Systems and Sub-Technologies for 6th Generation Mobile Communications” program.
