NTT DOCOMO and NEC Corporation have completed a test to evaluate the energy efficiency and performance of AWS Graviton2 processors across major parts of the 5G core network (5GC).   The testing indicated a 72% decrease in power usage when compared to existing x86 processors while utilizing NEC’s 5GC software running on AWS Graviton2. Telefonica partners with Oracle Telefonica Spain has signed a multi-year agreement with Oracle to accelerate the transfer of its business processes to the cloud in order to improve agility and expand its capacity to create new digital services. Oracle will deploy and operate an on-premises version of its Exadata Cloud Service in Telefonica’s data centers as part of the arrangement. The operator will be able to combine its mission-critical systems while still fulfilling data residency and latency requirements. Telefonica intends to migrate its Oracle database systems, as well as its OSS and BSS applications, business intelligence systems, CRM, billing, and revenue management systems, to the new platform. Google to use its own chips for the new Pixel phones Google has announced that its next Pixel smartphones will be available in the fall, powered for the first time by an in-house developed chip. Tensor, Google’s first mobile system on a chip, will be used in the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Vodafone, in partnership with Nokia, has released a machine learning (ML) solution, operating on Google Cloud, to rapidly detect and eliminate network anomalies before they affect Vodafone’s end customers. Built using Nokia Bell Labs technology, the Anomaly Detection Service automatically recognizes unusual behavior in a mobile cell area. Typically, this behavior, if unnoticed for a prolonged period of time, could affect the quality of service. The solution gives Vodafone engineers the ability to rapidly resolve issues such as congestion on mobile sites, interference, unexpected delays, difficulties in transferring calls between different cells and call setup failures. Besides anomaly detection, the algorithm also pinpoints patterns of change that allow Vodafone to address performance issues before they affect the customer. The Swedish multinational networking and telecommunications company Ericsson has introduced three new radios in its enterprise-level Massive MIMO portfolio, and bolstered their RAN Compute portfolio with six RAN Compute products to accelerate the 5G mid-band release and expand next-generation mobile technology.   Ericsson stated that the three new radios and six new RAN Compute products will enable operators to make better use of the full spectrum of mid-band, that is around 3.5 GHz.
