Vodafone, in partnership with Nokia, has released a machine learning (ML) solution, operating on Google Cloud, to rapidly detect and eliminate network anomalies before they affect Vodafone’s end customers. Built using Nokia Bell Labs technology, the Anomaly Detection Service automatically recognizes unusual behavior in a mobile cell area. Typically, this behavior, if unnoticed for a prolonged period of time, could affect the quality of service. The solution gives Vodafone engineers the ability to rapidly resolve issues such as congestion on mobile sites, interference, unexpected delays, difficulties in transferring calls between different cells and call setup failures. Besides anomaly detection, the algorithm also pinpoints patterns of change that allow Vodafone to address performance issues before they affect the customer. The operator forecasts that the anomaly detection service will be able to automatically detect and resolve 80% of mobile network problems and capacity needs. This new innovative solution is…

GCI to expand capacity for rural areas GCI, an Alaskan service provider, has signed a $150 million contract with Intelsat to increase the telecommunications service capacity in rural areas. GCI has been providing geosynchronous (GEO) satellite communications for 35 years to supply the state with data, video and voice services. The latest transaction gives GCI continued access to C-band and Ku-band capacities, which are already a part of GCI’s satellite services portfolio, and also provides new access to state-wide Ka-band capacity. Furthermore, Intelsat will provide the multi-satellite solution through a new and improved managed station platform and C- Ku- and Ka-bands networks. Snom, the top brand for modern IP telephony, has become the first end device manufacturer to integrate its own provisioning app into the new innovaphone PBX dashboard.   Configuration data for any Snom device docked at the innovaphone PBX can now be synchronised directly with Snom’s SRAPS (Secure Redirection and Provisioning Service) via a secure interface. Auto-provisioning files from the innovaphone PBX are stored there and made available for each port. This enables innovaphone’s administrators to operate Snom phones at a locally installed innovaphone PBX in ‘zero-touch’ mode using an app.   Innovaphone launched its new app store following the release of Version 13r2 of its internationally known PBX system. The store gives partners and customers direct access to useful apps and functions that are part of the communications platform – and is setting new standards for the integration of IP end devices like Snom’s.              In the sense of personalising…

Nokia launches iSIM Secure Connect Nokia has released new software to help operators cope with the provisioning of cellular IoT devices and subscription management. The software, called iSIM Secure Connect, relies on embedded SIM (eSIM) and integrated SIM (iSIM) technologies combined with reliable digital identification, allowing telecom service providers to quickly and securely authenticate and manage cellular IoT devices. The software is vendor agnostic and can be installed in a variety of network and cloud environments, providing a myriad of IoT use cases and business models. Deutsche Telekom (DT), in collaboration with its partners Ericsson, Nokia, Qualcomm, Samsung and Xiaomi, has announced the accomplishment of the world’s first ever Voice over 5G New Radio (VoNR) call in an end-to-end multi-vendor environment. During an innovation test in Warsaw, Poland, the partners tested the capabilities of a 5G Standalone (SA) network with voice and 5G data sessions in parallel.   The network setup integrated the Ericsson 5G Core and Nokia’s IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). Calls were terminated on commercial terminals from the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G, Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G and 5G smartphone form factor tester supplied by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 780G and 888 5G mobile platforms with Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF Systems.   By taking advantage of cloud-native 5G SA networks, operators will be able to provide high-quality voice services without relying on LTE as an anchor. Because of the high transmission quality of 5G technology, VoNR incorporation…

New security features for Google Workspace and Google Drive Google has unveiled new security tools that include client-side encryption for Workspace and several enhanced data protection features in the platform’s Drive service. The tech giant said there will be new trust rules and labels for Drive to classify files and apply controls based on their sensitivity levels. Telecommunications giant Orange and technology company SmartKey have created the first Blockchain of Thing (BoT) SIM card to implement access control and other smart city functions on a mobile phone. Thanks to the new partnership, access control, smart bikes, utilities and other smart city elements will soon be available to manage through blockchain technology.   The partnership is based on the SmartKey pilot program “Rescue without Barriers”, which allows the Olsztyn city rescue services in Poland to have instant access to each safe area and building in their district using blockchain. The technology enables hospital barriers and other gates to automatically unlock and open for rescue vehicles, thereby reducing response times. This is one example of many possible access control features based on blockchain and connectivity in the licensed operator’s band, setting the scene for Orange as the first global operator to use blockchain to promote the smart cities of…
