Nokia, DOCOMO, Fujitsu, NEC, and NTT have established a collaboration to design and develop critical 6G technologies. In proof-of-concept (POC) experiments, next-generation mobile technologies will be focused on the sub-terahertz band and AI-enabled interfaces.   The partnership will concentrate on two proof-of-concepts for upcoming 6G technologies: an AI native air interface and sub-THz radio access. These seek to prove that an AI-based 6G air interface outperforms a traditional air interface in terms of performance, and that high-data-rate beamformed access can be obtained in a high frequency band at 140 GHz.   Nokia thinks that 6G will not only improve on existing technologies and systems, but will also expand and revolutionize the capabilities of a network. It will bring together the human, physical, and computer realms in order to unleash the full human potential. Nokia has identified six important technologies that will be critical components of future 6G networks in order…

Pure IP, a New Zealand-based international VoIP communication solutions provider, has launched its Dynamics Call Connect solution, which enables inbound and outbound calls to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Service platform for a comprehensive omnichannel experience.   Customers can use Microsoft Azure Direct Routing to obtain numbers and external connections to enable inbound and outbound calls inside Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Service in a BYOC (Bring Your Own Carrier) paradigm.   Following the news last year that Pure IP was one of the first Microsoft Operator Connect launch partners, Dynamics Call Connect is the newest development in the Pure IP fold that strengthens the company’s Microsoft voice credentials.    Dynamics Call Connect makes use of Pure IP’s Azure Direct Routing as a Service offering to provide incoming and outbound calls for Dynamics Contact Center in over 43 countries, as well as inbound-only services in 137 countries, all from the cloud. Pure…

Ribbon Communications Inc., a global provider of real-time communications software and IP Optical networking solutions, has joined Microsoft’s new Operator Connect Accelerator for Microsoft Teams as an ecosystem partner.   The Operator Connect Accelerator program affords service providers with the opportunity to work with an authorized Microsoft ecosystem partner in order to provide integration tools, service offerings and professional services to jump-start their Operator Connect deployments, allowing these companies to reach a larger number of Teams customers.   Ribbon Connect for Operator Connect, a multi-tenant software as a service (SaaS) solution, will now enable service provider implementations of Operator Connect, which is a Microsoft-managed solution for connecting Teams and telecom providers. With Teams having over 270 million active monthly users, making telecom services more accessible to those Teams users positions its Phone System services as an alternative for traditional phone services and other cloud Unified Communications options.   Ribbon Connect…

GoTo Connect, a unified communication solutions provider that delivers configurable, scalable, all-in-one cloud phone and meeting systems with everything companies need to connect from anywhere, has teamed up with CallRevu, an industry leader in automobile call monitoring and analytics.   CallRevu can now gather high-quality call data and precise telephony information through its interface with GoTo Connect, allowing for better conversational analysis. NTT DOCOMO and NEC Corporation have launched a proof-of-concept (PoC) testing to run NEC’s 5G core network service in a hybrid cloud environment that leverages the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud using end-to-end cloud-native network architecture. Through the PoC, DOCOMO, NEC, and AWS expect to prove the viability of cloud-native mobile networks leveraging a public cloud for network function virtualization (NFV). The PoC will validate the energy efficiency and high performance that AWS Graviton2 processors can bring to NEC’s 5GC in the AWS cloud to achieve an energy-performance advantage over comparable solutions. As the first step, 5GC network functions will run in the cloud on AWS infrastructure and corresponding 5GC network functions will reside on DOCOMO’s on-premises infrastructure to verify availability and operational feasibility. The second step will deploy the 5GC network function on AWS Outposts (on Amazon EC2 compute instances powered by Graviton2 processors) on DOCOMO’s premises. AWS…

Airbus and NTT DOCOMO have tested the possibility of supplying future wireless broadband access using the solar-powered Zephyr High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS). The experiment was conducted in August in the United States, when the Zephyr S aircraft flew in the stratosphere for 18 days to assess different capabilities.   The Airbus Zephyr S, which is equipped with an onboard radio transmitter, offered a highly flexible data link during its stratospheric flight to mimic future direct-to-device connection. Test data was collected at different altitudes and during various hours of the day and night, with the goal of determining how weather conditions, varied elevation angles and aircraft flight patterns influence connectivity in the stratosphere.   Various bandwidths were used in the tests to replicate direct-to-device services from the HAPS to end-users at low, nominal and high capacity. The demonstration proved the practicality and adaptability of the 2GHz spectrum for HAPS-based services,…

NEC Corporation, along with its subsidiary OCC Corporation and Sumitomo Electric Industries, has stated that they have conducted the first testing of an uncoupled 4-core underwater fiber cable and confirmed its transmission performance to fulfill the stringent requirements of global telecommunications networks.   International data usage is anticipated to increase by 30-40%  by 2026, owing to reasons such as the expansion of 5G mobile data and the necessity to exchange ever more content between data centers located around the world. Submarine networks are using space division multiplexing (SDM) technology to fulfill this need, which increases the number of separate spatial channels to maximize the overall capacity of the system, decrease energy usage and minimize the cost per bit transferred. Multicore fiber is projected to increase the number of parallel optical fiber cores without changing the size and structure of underwater cables, allowing the introduction of second generation of submarine SDM…

Centene has partnered with AT&T, Connected Nation, Dell Technologies and Intel to help reduce the digital gap among youngsters by providing foster agencies in Florida and Missouri better access to the Internet. Centene and the other organizations donated over 1,000 computers and 2,200 hotspots under the K-12 Digital Divide Program.   The Digital Divide refers to the economic, educational and social disparities that exist between those who have access to the Internet and those who do not. The program, which is hoped will have a positive influence on the general welfare of the youth, was necessary during the pandemic since computers and internet connectivity were essential for routine activities, such as attending school or visiting the doctor.   Mylayna Albright, AVP, Corporate Social Responsibility, AT&T, commented: “This program brings together major players in the health and technology industries to ensure foster youth can access important digital resources that address physical,…
