How 5G might be a burden for Telecom companies stocks…

The investment required to upgrade a network to support standalone 5G technology is important. JP Morgan think this is the reason why Telecom companies stocks did not do so well last year. There is a serious concern that the investment might not be as effective as expected. The lack of return put an important shade on some valuation for some asian (China, Japan and South Korea) and Australian telecommunications stocks. Those worries could be explained as the daily applications and advantages of 5G technology are yet to be seen and to be invented. James Sullivan,head of Asia ex-Japan equity research at J.P. India: the telecom regulator opens the gates for VoIP

In India, the TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) recommended that providers will be allowed to offer app-based VoIP services through Wi-Fi. Those calls will be considered the same way as classic calls. Thus the operators will have to have to follow the rules forme the TRAI. The consequences are interesting for a country that can be subject to issues on phone connectivities to the network. With this recommendation, you can now have the service from your regular provider with one phone number, and get the app of that same company, and use the same number for both. However, you can also download the app from another provider and get another phone number for VoIP, and use it through Wi-Fi. UAE telecom talks about lifting ban on Skype and FaceTime

Negotiations started recently between Microsoft and Apple on one side, and UAE Telecoms controllers on the other, in order to check if the ban on Skype and FaceTime could be lifted. As Hamad Al Mansoori, head of the TRA (Telecommunications Regulatory Authority), the “discussions are still ongoing”. According to arabic news Al Ittihad, those talks are a part of the two companies plan to extend their business in that part of the world. The goal of the UAE is to keep good relations with Microsoft and Apple, as the first is launching a data center in the UAE in order to cover the entire region. Dublin and Apple sign agreement to collect 13 billion euros of unpaid tax

The Irish government announced the signing with Apple of an agreement allowing the payment, in a blocked account, of 13 billion euros tax benefits deemed undue by the European Union.  In August 2017, the EU commission said a sweetheart deal devised by the Irish government had allowed Apple to pay tax of just 0.005% in 2014 and an average rate of 1% over many years. Brussels estimates that the US company has paid too little tax in Ireland because of a tax agreement with the country’s authorities, which would have allowed the Government to tax only a tiny part of the billions earned by Apple in Europe. Ireland is home to the European headquarters of Apple, which records all the profits made in this geographical area as well as in Africa, the Middle East and India. Customer Relationship Management (CRM) revenues lead the software market

By the end of the first quarter 2018, revenues from the CRM (Customer Relationship Management) market had outperformed those of DBMS (DataBase Management Systems), making CRM the largest market in the software industry. For the period January to December 2017, CRM software sales generated $39.5 billion, compared to $36.8 billion for DBMS. According to expert predictions, it is expected that revenues for CRM software will remain the top market performer for 2018, and will also show the highest growth rate of 16%. Growth will be driven by lead management, customer opinion management, and after-sales management software, each of which has been growing at over 20% during the past 18 months. The CRM solution providers covering the entire customer relationship cycle, including after sales service, are the fastest growing, thanks to their ability to cross-sell additional modules.

Will Europe fall behind in the rollout of 5G?

That’s what researchers at CCS Insight believe. According to their report, China and the United States will lead the way in deploying the next generation of mobile technology. Commercial deployments of 5G in the U.S. are expected as soon as the end of 2018.  CCS Insight’s forecast of an initial U.S. lead corroborates with a report from the GSMA at the end of March 2018, but the firms appear to disagree on the rest of their rankings for the period prior to 2025. In the GSMA’s report, by 2025, China falls to fourth place with 25 percent of mobile connections being 5G. The United States takes the lead with 49 percent, followed by Japan (45 percent) and Europe (31 percent).
