NTT DOCOMO and NEC reduce power consumption of AWS Graviton2 processors

NTT DOCOMO and NEC Corporation have completed a test to evaluate the energy efficiency and performance of AWS Graviton2 processors across major parts of the 5G core network (5GC). The testing indicated a 72% decrease in power usage when compared to existing x86 processors while utilizing NEC’s 5GC software running on AWS Graviton2. The study examined performance in a 5GC hybrid cloud environment using AWS Graviton2 and the Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) infrastructure installed locally by DOCOMO.. These findings promote the creation of a hybrid cloud environment for telecommunication networks in the future, allowing mobile carriers to offer their users better networks that are disaster-resistant. The two partners will keep delighting German record champions’ supporters with cutting-edge services and deals. All existing SSE customers and the company’s staff will switch to TalkTalk in the upcoming months after the purchase has been finalized. GSMA moves to make ESG reporting metrics consistent

The GSMA has released a whitepaper that specifies 10 key performance indicators (KPIs) for mobile carriers in the areas of environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG). The GSMA estimates that roughly 600 distinct ESG reporting standards are presently in use across the mobile sector. This diversity not only makes assessing the level of success on an industrial scale challenging, but it also puts a great load on operators, who often invest significant time and effort in data gathering and detailing progress, only to generate a report with little value. The KPIs are divided into four groups, with the GSMA explaining why these divisions were made: Environment – Reporting against environmental KPIs can aid internal decision-making, such as how to develop decarbonization policies and deploy cash to increase energy efficiency. Vodafone UK switches on wind and solar-powered mobile phone mast

The UK’s first live wind and solar-powered mobile phone mast has been activated in Pembrokeshire (Wales) by Vodafone UK. The self-powered mast will provide 4G service to the community of Eglwyswrw and will be powered by a wind turbine, solar panels and on-site battery storage. The new mast contributes to Vodafone’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2027 for its UK operations. The mast is meant to eliminate the requirement for a connection to the national energy grid, a strategy that will assist in delivering connectivity in rural and distant places that are now without those critical services. The successful demonstration of renewable energy sources in a 5G mobile site has been confirmed by Deutsche Telekom and Ericsson. Both companies collaborated to convert a live radio station utilizing a management system to optimize power supply and demand by leveraging solar and wind energy. The site in Dittenheim, 120 kilometers north of Munich, has been partially powered by solar panels for over a year as part of a prior collaboration between the two enterprises. Wind turbines have now been installed as part of a new trial to increase the site’s renewable energy capability. Acting as a second renewable energy power source, the wind turbine is capable of providing up to 5kW of additional electricity.
