Huawei opens MediaCityUK office to boost local tech economy

China’s leading technology group Huawei has unveiled its new office based at Salford’s MediaCityUK complex in Greater Manchester. This is the company’s first major facility in the North West of England, as Huawei is set to expand its 5G operations and boost the local tech economy in the region. The new office will run several key business operations including the Network Design Centre, Delivery Operations Centre for the north of the UK, and customer account teams. According to Huawei, the MediaCityUK complex has earned a reputation as an international center for technology, innovation and creativity. Greater Manchester is also home to one of the fastest growing digital technology sectors in Europe, the company said in a press release. Huawei unveils the world’s most powerful AI chip – Ascend 910

The Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei has unveiled their brand-new Artificial Intelligence (AI) chipset Ascend 910 at its Shenzhen headquarters, together with the accompanying AI computing framework, MindSpore. China’s Huawei Technologies has launched new database and storage products with the aim of redefining its data infrastructure and strengthening the global presence of its cloud business. The world’s first AI-native database GaussDB supports differentiated scenarios such as private and public clouds and data services in the finance, internet, logistics and automotive sectors. Huawei and its VR OpenLab business partners introduced the Dual-G Cloud VR Initiative at the 16th Huawei Global Analyst Summit (HAS). Global tech giants partner for high-speed interconnect

A consortium of nine technology companies – Intel, Cisco, Dell EMC, Microsoft, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Facebook, Google, Alibaba and Huawei – has been formed in order to create and launch a new standard, called Compute Express Link (CXL). This project will accelerate ever-expanding data workloads, such as high-performance computing, artificial intelligence (AI), internet of things (IoT), rich media services, and cloud applications. Jim Pappas, director of technology initiatives at Intel, said in a statement: “CXL is an important milestone for data-centric computing and will be a foundational standard for an open, dynamic accelerator ecosystem. GSMA prompts Europe on network security and 5G competition

The global organization representing the interests of mobile network operators, GSMA, has called for European governments to “safeguard network security and competition” in the telecommunications infrastructure industry. The association has issued a warning to Europe to refrain from activities that would obstruct the use of certain equipment necessary for 5G mobile network development. Huawei overtakes Apple in smartphone sales in Q2

The Chinese equipment manufacturer Huawei recently expressed its intention to surpass Apple in the smartphone market in 2018, and it seems that these plans are becoming a reality. According to IDC, Huawei shipped 54.2 million mobile devices units in the second quarter and moved to the second position, only to be outpaced by the ultimate leader Samsung.
