Intriguingly, SpaceX’s Starlink offers an innovative Direct to Cell feature allowing existing LTE phones to function even in remote locations – a potential boon for those often out of terrestrial coverage. With a rollout plan targeting texts by 2024, and full voice, data, and IoT compatibility by 2025, Starlink seems poised for a breakthrough. While the proposition seems formidable, concerns around possible limitations of Starlink’s proprietary technology remind us advantages of relying on industry best practices. Without disclosed pricing details, we can only anticipate how this venture will fare against other satellite connectivity contenders.

The Indian telecom giant Bharti Airtel has selected Nokia’s CloudBand-based software products to power its Voice over LTE (VoLTE) network. Nokia stated that this network supports more than 110 million customers, making it the largest cloud-based VoLTE network in India and the world’s largest VoLTE service managed by Nokia. According to the Finnish telecom gear maker, the deployment of cloud-based VoLTE will enable Airtel to provide its mobile customers with faster, more reliable and cost-effective call connectivity. Nokia’s solution, which has been deployed to cover all 22 telecom service areas in India, uses commercial, off-the-shelf IT hardware with cloud-based Virtual Network Functions (VNFs). Nokia noted that cloud-native VNFs consume far less power and space compared to traditional 2G or 3G circuit-switched legacy cores. With Nokia’s VoLTE platform, Airtel will be able to reduce its 3G network traffic and use the freed-up spectrum to deploy 4G / LTE services for higher speeds…

VoIP technology has spawned a booming market packed with exciting and innovative products and services that are constantly emerging and evolving to enhance our personal and professional lives. However, all of these advanced solutions also require in-depth knowledge and expertise by those who design, install, maintain and monitor VoIP services. In order to understand VoIP and advance the development and implementation of this technology, software engineers, network administrators, designers and other IT professionals need to learn and update their skills on a regular basis. Northrop Frye, one of Canada’s most eminent thinkers, once said, “The most technologically efficient machine that man has ever invented is the book.” With this in mind, VoIP.Review has compiled a list of ten books for those who want to keep up to date with the increasingly complex world of high-tech VoIP communications. So, let’s delve into some of the most useful publications! VoIP Technology:…
