Vodafone teams up with Google’s cloud division

Vodafone and Google Cloud have announced a six-year strategic partnership to promote the use of reliable and secure data analytics and insights in support of new digital products and services that will be introduced to Vodafone’s customers around the world. Under the terms of the expanded agreement, the companies will work together to create a new and robust integrated data platform with additional capabilities to process and transfer huge amounts of data worldwide from numerous systems to the cloud. As part of the six-year contract, Vodafone will also transfer data from its own servers to Google Cloud. The platform “Nucleus” will feature a new system – “Dynamo”. This platform will manage data across Vodafone to offer its customers new, customized products and services in a variety of markets. Millicom exits the African market

Millicom, a Luxembourg-based international telecommunications and media company, has announced it has signed agreements to sell its operations in Tanzania and its stake in the AirtelTigo joint venture in Ghana. The concluding deals will complete Millicom’s prolonged plan to leave the African market and focus on its operations in Latin America. Millicom has been operating in the Tanzanian market since 1994 and took ownership of the local operations in 2006. For a while, the company tried to make their shares public, but in the end decided to sell the business in its entirety. The company agreed to sell its Tanzanian business for an undisclosed amount to a consortium led by Axian. In the meantime, the company signed an agreement with its joint venture partner Bharti Airtel on Friday to pass on its AirtelTigo shares to the Ghanaian government for $25 million. Vodafone launches standalone 5G services in Germany Vodafone has announced the launch of its standalone 5G services in Germany. Vodafone Germany, working with Ericsson, Qualcomm, and Oppo, has upgraded around 1000 mobile sites in the 3.5 GHz range, switching them to an independent 5G core network that no longer relies on 4G. Snom announces new DECT headset features

Snom, an international manufacturer of IP phones for businesses and professionals, has updated the functionality of its A190 headsets to make day-to-day calling more efficient for users. The company launched its wireless A190 headset in 2019. For businesses with a DECT multicell installation, the headset offers the ability to roam up to 50 metres indoors and 300 metres outdoors without losing signal. It provides excellent broadband sound, including noise and echo cancellation, and a talk time of up to seven hours thanks to an integrated lithium-ion battery. When the battery runs out, the A190 is equipped with a voice output that informs the user in advance. Until now, transferring or muting via the headset was not possible and could only be done using buttons on a paired Snom DECT phone. Ericsson accelerates 5G mid-band rollouts

The Swedish multinational networking and telecommunications company Ericsson has introduced three new radios in its enterprise-level Massive MIMO portfolio, and bolstered their RAN Compute portfolio with six RAN Compute products to accelerate the 5G mid-band release and expand next-generation mobile technology. Ericsson stated that the three new radios and six new RAN Compute products will enable operators to make better use of the full spectrum of mid-band, that is around 3.5 GHz. The products are powered by Ericsson Silicon, the company’s system on a chip (SoC), which provides advanced processing capabilities for the rapid development of energy-efficient, high performance networks and ensures greater security. FCC establishes Emergency Broadband Benefit program The FCC has recently held an open meeting in order to discuss its next priorities. One of the most important matters discussed was the new Emergency Broadband Benefit program, which Congress has instructed the FCC to initiate.
