The GSMA, a global association of mobile network operators, has unveiled a new project dubbed the GSMA Open Gateway with the goal of offering developers universal access to operator networks. This objective will be accomplished through the creation of a framework of universal network Application Programmable Interfaces (APIs) that will unite the industry behind open APIs. The change signifies a fundamental shift in how the telecoms sector creates and provides services in a world where there is an API economy.   At the MWC Barcelona 2023, 21 mobile network carriers will already be demonstrating the potential of the initiative. Juniper Networks, a supplier of secure, AI-driven networks, announced that Virgin Media O2, one of the UK’s major fixed and mobile service providers, has updated its IP core backbone network in conjunction with  Juniper. The upgraded network can accommodate 800G and is part of Virgin Media O2’s long-term strategy to invest in sustainable infrastructure capable of supporting continuous data growth and bandwidth needs. Greek authorities to investigate telecoms operators  The Hellenic Authority for Communication Security and Privacy (ADAE) in Greece is about to launch an investigation into telecommunications companies for improper monitoring demands made by the Greek secret services. This probe follows a controversy last year in which the government reportedly spied on journalists and politicians using Predator malware. The Greek government has acknowledged some of the monitoring activities, but insists that they were carried out legitimately and that it did not purchase the malware. ADAE will form a team to supervise the probe and will analyze private data using powers given by the Greek Constitution.
