Nokia unveils enhanced AVA Energy efficiency software for CSPs

Nokia has released an update to its AVA Energy efficiency software, which now features improved algorithms and power-saving strategies, allowing communication service providers (CSPs) to achieve significant reductions in electricity use in their networks. The enhanced Nokia AVA Energy efficiency tool’s improved machine learning algorithms will allow CSPs to reduce power usage in their data centers, as well as network base stations, batteries and air conditioning units in telecom networks. Based on customer testing, Nokia AVA Energy efficiency software can reduce power use by up to 30%, which is an increase of around 10% from the original program. The upgraded solution enables operators to automatically shut down idle and underutilized equipment using algorithms. Microsoft’s recently introduced AI-powered chatbot for its Bing search engine has received a lot of attention for all the wrong reasons. Users are complaining that the AI platform is behaving oddly and responding in impolite and hostile ways. This AI chatbot is part of a collaboration between Microsoft and OpenAI to challenge Google’s supremacy in search and AI. The AI software employs OpenAI’s GPT language model, which is presently in preview and only available to a limited number of users. The Bing subreddit is full of examples of the AI’s unusual behavior, such as arguments with people regarding dates and movie releases. Aviation companies once again stall 5G rollout in the US

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has put forward a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) that gives airlines an additional year, until February 1, 2024, to address faulty altimeters in their aircraft. These altimeters, which measure an airplane’s height above the earth’s surface, are present on 7,993 planes registered in the United States. The FAA believes that 180 of these altimeters will need to be completely replaced, while 820 will need filters added to comply with the proposed modification requirement. This upgrade is expected to cost a total of $26 million. The ruling is part of a settlement reached between the aviation and cellular sectors after AT&T and Verizon paid $69 billion for C-Band spectrum licenses. Airplane altimeters typically operate in the 4.2 – 4.4 GHz frequency, but certain altimeters cannot filter out 5G signals from the carriers’ spectrum in the 3.7-3.98 GHz range. The FAA is therefore…

Orange has announced a partnership with Reservoir Sun, a pioneer in self-supply solar energy systems. The aim of this arrangement is to build a photovoltaic power plant at the major satellite communications station Bercenay-en-Othe (Aube), in order to provide environmentally favorable outcomes for France and Europe. The communications corporation is shifting its usage toward renewable energy sources and speeding up the process by utilizing solar energy in its tertiary and technical facilities. The solar energy farm is scheduled to be completed in 2025. A surface area of 50,000 square meters will be occupied by the farm. The power plant, which has a 5 MW capacity, 1 MW for self-consumption and 4 MW for reinjection, will provide 20% of the site’s energy requirements.
