NTT DOCOMO and NEC Corporation have launched a proof-of-concept (PoC) testing to run NEC’s 5G core network service in a hybrid cloud environment that leverages the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud using end-to-end cloud-native network architecture. Through the PoC, DOCOMO, NEC, and AWS expect to prove the viability of cloud-native mobile networks leveraging a public cloud for network function virtualization (NFV). The PoC will validate the energy efficiency and high performance that AWS Graviton2 processors can bring to NEC’s 5GC in the AWS cloud to achieve an energy-performance advantage over comparable solutions. As the first step, 5GC network functions will run in the cloud on AWS infrastructure and corresponding 5GC network functions will reside on DOCOMO’s on-premises infrastructure to verify availability and operational feasibility. The second step will deploy the 5GC network function on AWS Outposts (on Amazon EC2 compute instances powered by Graviton2 processors) on DOCOMO’s premises. AWS…
Singtel, a Singaporean telecommunications conglomerate, and its Australian subsidiary Optus have expanded their 5G ecosystems by adding Amazon Web Services (AWS) Outposts to their portfolio of hybrid cloud technologies from hyperscale cloud providers in their respective multi-access edge compute (MEC) platforms. With Amazon Web Services Outpost, MEC will power 5G solutions such as robotics, drones, autonomous vehicles and artificial intelligence to function with very little latency, and closer to end-users. Companies can access MECs with AWS Outposts from the nearest Singtel site, allowing them to seamlessly manage their applications that utilize AWS tools and benefit from extremely low latency data processing. Furthermore, Singtel may optionally install the MEC with AWS Outposts at the customer’s site for testing, in the case where the customer wishes to keep confidential data on its premises. Bill Chang, CEO of group enterprise at Singtel said its partnership with AWS will increase the…
The South Korean tech giant, Samsung Electronics, has announced an effective demonstration of what it terms the world’s first video call on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform using Mission Critical Push-to-Talk, Data and Video (MCPTX, also known as Mission Critical Communications), the communications functionality designed specifically for first responders. Based on 3GPP Release 14 specifications, this implementation was enabled by the successful onboarding, integration and deployment on AWS cloud. Wonil Roh, Senior Vice President and Head of Product Strategy, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics, said, “This demonstration showcases how Samsung’s Mission Critical Communications solutions can manage public crises and be readily deployed on public cloud platforms. It also enables us to learn and adapt to the evolving needs of service providers and end-users alike. This brings a new level of broad coverage, scalability and reliability to mission critical service deployments, and we look forward to continuing our journey…
Robocalls and scam calls plague phone users, causing financial loss, identity theft, and emotional distress. These deceptive tactics exploit advancements in technology. Fortunately, individuals can fight back with call blocking apps, Do Not Call lists, and authentication technology. By working together, we can reduce the impact of robocalls and scam calls.
In a collaborative effort, Microsoft and US President Joe Biden have revealed plans to construct a $3.3 billion data center in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin. This initiative aims to bolster technological infrastructure, fostering the development and deployment of advanced cloud services and AI applications for companies across Wisconsin and its neighboring regions.
In response to the escalating demand for cloud services across public and private sectors in Italy, TIM, the leading telecommunications provider, has announced a strategic collaboration with Oracle. Matthew Riley, the CEO of Daisy Group, a leading UK IT services company, is reportedly on the brink of finalizing a merger deal with Wavenet, a communication and technology solutions provider based in the UK. According to sources disclosed to Sky News, the merger is in its final stages.
In a significant move aimed at bolstering cybersecurity across the country, the UK government has rolled out stringent regulations requiring manufacturers of internet-connected devices to adhere to minimum-security standards. The new laws, part of the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) Act 2022, are designed to mitigate the risks posed by weak security features on smart gadgets.
CSPs have been investing heavily in network technology to reduce expenses, but legacy voice infrastructure is holding them back. Cloud transformation can deliver better customer experiences, reduce costs, and increase scalability. AI will change customer engagement and revenue generation, with GenAI offering SMBs deep analytics from customer conversations. CSPs should focus on a modern, digital-first customer experience with self-service options. Alianza offers a cloud communications platform to simplify migration and operations for CSPs.
