Rogers apologizes for the massive service outage Rogers, a Canadian telecommunications company, experienced a widespread outage earlier this month and is now under pressure to guarantee that this does not happen again. The most damaging effect of the outage was how it disrupted crucial communications, and the Canadian government has declared that it now wants all national carriers to find a way of helping each other in such worst-case situations. Rogers has committed to investing at least CA$250 million to physically isolate its wireless and internet networks so as to add an extra layer of stability. Ribbon Communications Inc., a global provider of real-time communications software and IP Optical networking solutions, has joined Microsoft’s new Operator Connect Accelerator for Microsoft Teams as an ecosystem partner.   The Operator Connect Accelerator program affords service providers with the opportunity to work with an authorized Microsoft ecosystem partner in order to provide integration tools, service offerings and professional services to jump-start their Operator Connect deployments, allowing these companies to reach a larger number of Teams customers.   Ribbon Connect for Operator Connect, a multi-tenant software as a service (SaaS) solution, will now enable service provider implementations of Operator Connect, which is a Microsoft-managed solution for connecting Teams and telecom providers. BT putting its digital voice service rollout on halt Last year, BT began rolling out Digital Voice, which  is a VoIP solution that works over the company’s broadband network rather than the old analogue network, as the name implies. This service is an essential improvement, as BT points out, to replace analogue technology, which is rapidly becoming outmoded. The operator is, however, delaying the Digital Voice switchover for consumers who do not wish to switch right away. GCI to expand capacity for rural areas GCI, an Alaskan service provider, has signed a $150 million contract with Intelsat to increase the telecommunications service capacity in rural areas. GCI has been providing geosynchronous (GEO) satellite communications for 35 years to supply the state with data, video and voice services. The latest transaction gives GCI continued access to C-band and Ku-band capacities, which are already a part of GCI’s satellite services portfolio, and also provides new access to state-wide Ka-band capacity. Tel Q Global, a telecom hub for voice and SMS services, has selected Singapore operator Cataleya for its global voice network virtualization. With its superior technology, innovative commercial models and a world-wide footprint, Cataleya will completely virtualize Tel Q Global’s international voice network, resulting in significant cost savings and operational simplicity. According to a statement, Tel Q Global required a switching and BSS service in three global regions to be able to launch their new virtual number services in the shortest possible time.
