Cisco to purchase Acacia Communications

Cisco, a global giant and provider of IT, networking and cybersecurity solutions, has announced that it has received the final regulatory approval for a $4.5 billion agreement to purchase Acacia. The merger was reportedly approved by the Chinese government’s State Market Regulatory Administration (SAMR) on Tuesday. The consent from SAMR was the last hurdle to clear for Cisco to complete the deal. Cisco’s plans to acquire Acacia Communications were first announced in July of 2019. The deal was on a fully diluted basis to buy the company for $70 per share in cash for a total of $2.6 billion. Cisco had then received the regulatory go-ahead from the United States, Germany and Austria. Cisco has received the approval under certain conditions. Twilio to acquire startup Segment for $3.2B

Twilio, a USA-based cloud communications platform, on Monday announced its largest acquisition to date. The company is buying the customer data startup Segment for $3.2 billion in Twilio Class A common stock, on a fully diluted and cash free, debt free basis. Segment is a customer data platform (CDP) that helps collect, clear and manage customer data. This platform allows organizations to move customer data from one application to another through an API, and use the platform to better control how the customer data travels through the systems. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2020, and Segment will emerge as a part of Twilio. ComReg opens up additional spectrum to create more capacity for telcos

The Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg), the Irish national regulatory authority, and the current Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment Richard Bruton TD have signed new regulations that will allow the release of additional radio spectrum to create extra capacity for mobile phone and broadband services. These are temporary measures taken in response to a sharp increase in the use of mobile networks, as people rely more heavily on their operators to communicate and stay connected during COVID-19 social distancing. According to ComReg, mobile operators have coped well with increased usage so far, but they have currently less headroom to accommodate further spikes in demand. Avaya and RingCentral join forces in a $500 million UCaaS deal

Avaya, an American tech company specializing in unified business communications, and RingCentral, a provider of cloud-based communications for small businesses and enterprise companies, have announced a strategic partnership for a new cloud offering worth at least USD 500 million. RingCentral’s multi-million contribution includes a one-time USD 125 million preferred equity investment and a USD 375 million advance to Avaya for selling the RingCentral unified communications as-a-service (UCaaS) solution in selected countries.
