Dish and AT&T strike a $5 billion network deal Dish has signed a mobile network services agreement with AT&T worth more than $5 billion over the next ten years. In accordance with the MVNO and the national roaming agreement, Dish’s mobile phone brands will use the AT&T network. When the operator’s 5G service commences, the mobile brands will use AT&T’s infrastructure for roaming in areas where it does not currently have coverage. With this deal, Dish replaces T-Mobile US as a partner in the wholesale network, and it is likely that the network operator will not suffer significant financial losses due to one of its competitors. SoftBank aims at providing connectivity from space SoftBank has announced that it will begin promoting the roll out of Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) solutions that provide connectivity from space and the stratosphere. SoftBank NTN solutions will include the Geosynchronous Earth Orbiting (GEO) satellite NarrowBand IoT (NB-IoT) services provided by Skylo Technologies. The two companies recently agreed to cooperate in offering satellite services in Japan. Vodafone Germany to build new base stations and 5G Vodafone Germany has announced that it will undertake more than 7,000 mobile infrastructure construction projects including 3,000 5G projects, which it estimates will support 9,000 5G antennas. The projects will take place in the current financial year, which began in April. The company says it has exceeded its 5G coverage targets by expanding the network to 25 million subscribers, and estimates that it will soon cover 30 million consumers with 5G. Vodafone Germany, working with Ericsson, Qualcomm, and Oppo, has upgraded around 1000 mobile sites in the 3.5 GHz range, switching them to an independent 5G core network that no longer relies on 4G. One of the most important matters discussed was the new Emergency Broadband Benefit program, which Congress has instructed the FCC to initiate. As part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, Congress has allocated $3.2 billion for the program. SK Telecom, the top mobile operator in South Korea, has teamed up with its security subsidiary ADT Caps Co. and local video management solutions company Innodep Inc. to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) solution to meet the growing demand for efficient and advanced video analysis services. Under the agreement, the trio will develop services to effectively manage video surveillance systems in the private and public sectors of the growing local market. The ultimate goal of the partnership is to create real-time security services for the public and industry, while addressing existing defects in the video analysis systems, such as false alarms.
