A German mobile network testing company, Rohde & Schwarz, have announced in their recent press release the upcoming launch of the first commercially available 5G New Radio (NR) measurement solution. The product will be displayed at the Mobile World Congress Americas taking place from 12 to 14 September, 2018 in Los Angeles. This pioneering developer of test and measurement equipment for 5G will present their 5G NR network measurement solution, that allows 5G users and regulators to measure 5G NR network coverage accurately. In addition, users will have the ability to verify the correct operation of beamforming and interworking between 5G and other technologies.
This new solution consists of a network scanner with 5G NR scanning software, and the unique R&S ROMES4 Drive Test Software suite. Users will have two options for the test scanners: the compact R&S TSME6 Drive Test Scanner, or the R&S TSMA6 Autonomous Mobile Network Scanner with a built-in network PC. Moreover, the R&S ROMES4 Drive Test Software provides analysis and visualization of all existing 3GPP technologies, such as GSM, UMTS/HSPA and LTE, as well as the IoT technologies NB-IoT and LTE-M. The products are designed to connect with 5G NR devices such as evaluation boards, USB dongles and pre-commercial smartphones, providing useful insights into a device’s performance for the 5G early adopter community.
Rohde & Schwarz confirmed that successful test trials of the pre-commercial 5G NR network have been completed with the help of a tier 1 operator and a global 5G NR infrastructure supplier. To facilitate the ease-of-use for new customers, the 5G NR network measurement solution will be compatible with the Rohde & Schwarz’s intuitive and powerful mobile network testing software suite called the Smart platform.
“By launching the world’s first commercially available 5G NR network measurement solution, once again, we at Rohde & Schwarz prove our commitment to turn visions into reality. We enable our customers to be ahead in 5G by achieving superior 5G NR performance in all phases of the network lifecycle,” commented the vice-president for Monitoring and testing at Rhode & Schwarz, Dietmar Vahldiek.
