Verizon Public Sector has clinched a $15 million task order to upgrade voice and data services for the U.S. Navy’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) division. The contract, granted under the federal government’s Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) procurement initiative, will witness Verizon integrating innovative technologies and services for voice across MWR’s global locations.
As part of the agreement, Verizon will modernize the Navy’s data services by transitioning from the Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) voice platform to Ethernet. This move aligns with the company’s commitment to digital transformation within federal agencies, as demonstrated by its previous collaborations with the Department of Defense and various government entities.
Maggie Hallbach, Senior Vice President of Verizon Public Sector, emphasized the significance of the MWR contract, stating, “This represents the latest example of Verizon’s dedication to the digital transformation of federal agencies, as well as the broader public sector.” Verizon has been an established partner for the Navy, having secured a $78 million contract in 2021 to upgrade the Naval District Washington’s TDM platform to a hosted Internet Protocol Voice Service (IPVS).
Verizon’s prowess in the public sector has been underscored by its recent victories in government contracts. Earlier this year, the company secured a $2.4 billion contract with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to enhance its telecommunications and information management systems. Additionally, Verizon secured a $146 million cloud contract for the United States Postal Service (USPS). In 2022, the telecom giant bagged nearly $1 billion in Department of Defense contracts for network infrastructure upgrades and a $1.5 billion task order from the U.S. State Department.
Maggie Hallbach highlighted Verizon’s expertise in the public sector, stating, “Our deep public sector knowledge and experience coupled with our industry-leading managed and professional services capabilities separates Verizon as the premier public sector partner.” She emphasized that Verizon’s focus under EIS contracts includes the decommissioning of TDM infrastructures, transitioning to Ethernet and fiber-based services, and implementing software-defined wide-area networks (SD-WAN) and high-capacity links.
Hallbach noted the accelerated adoption of cloud-first solutions during the pandemic, positioning EIS as an ideal avenue for procuring and consuming these services.
