Ericsson is gearing up to present its latest 5G innovations for railways at InnoTrans, a significant trade fair dedicated to transport innovation. The Swedish telecom leader will showcase how its 5G Corridor and Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) solutions are transforming passenger and freight transport.

During the event, Ericsson will highlight the deployment of 5G Corridors along railway lines, which promise gigabit speeds to passengers. This advancement allows seamless work, streaming, and communication during train journeys. Moreover, rail operators can enhance onboard services with real-time updates and infotainment options, improving the passenger experience.

FRMCS is set to replace the aging GSM-R technology currently used in railways. Developed in collaboration with the International Union of Railways (UIC) and other industry stakeholders, FRMCS leverages the power of LTE and 5G to facilitate real-time data exchange between trains, significantly boosting operational safety and efficiency.

“We believe that 5G and FRMCS technologies will drive rail communication into a new era, improving safety, efficiency, and the passenger experience,” says Magnus Packendorff, Head of Mission Critical at Ericsson. “Our commitment is to support railways and mobile operators in evolving their services from GSM-R to FRMCS. Collaboratively we can embrace advanced technologies that benefit the railway industry and its customers.”

Ericsson will join over 2,700 international exhibitors at InnoTrans, with an expected audience of 130,000 visitors from more than 130 countries.

“InnoTrans is the most significant event in the rail and transport industry calendar. We are therefore thrilled to be here this year with Ericsson as a leading mobile network supplier and to have the opportunity to demonstrate our current FRMCS and 5G Corridors solutions to the industry experts,” comments Daniel Leimbach, Head of Customer Unit Western Europe at Ericsson.

“We look forward to four days of discussions, product demonstrations, and interactions about the future of this industry.”

In addition to demonstrations, Ericsson will participate in the InnoTrans Convention, which runs concurrently with the trade fair. Katrin Bachert, a key account manager for service providers, will represent Ericsson in a panel discussion on Germany’s Gigabit Innovation Track (GINT) project.

“As a trusted partner and technology leader, Ericsson is committed to collaborating with railways and mobile operators in offering high-performing, resilient, and secure connectivity essential for passengers and freight services,” concludes Packendorff.
