An Australian semiconductor firm, Morse Micro, is advancing Wi-Fi HaLow technology to enhance low-power, mid-range IoT solutions. They have unveiled a new developer platform, the MM6108-EKH05, integrating the MM6108 Wi-Fi HaLow system-on-chip (SoC), BlueNRG-M2 Bluetooth SoC, and STM32U585 microcontroller (MCU). Additionally, they announced a collaboration with Vantron Technology from Silicon Valley to produce a new range of Wi-Fi HaLow-enabled IoT products. These will include modules, access points, and IP cameras.

Wi-Fi HaLow (802.11ah) operates on sub-GHz spectrum frequencies within global ISM bands, between 850 MHz and 950 MHz. This spectrum differs from the typically congested 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, offering improved coverage and reliability. Fans argue it extends the range nearly 10 times and increases the coverage area 100-fold and coverage volume 1,000-fold.

Morse Micro seeks to use this technology across various applications, including smart home devices and industrial automation systems. The company has highlighted key features of their new evaluation kit. These features include long-range, low-power Wi-Fi HaLow, temperature, humidity, and motion sensors, flexible power options, and WPA3 security. Available from Mouser, it is designed for rapid development through CMSIS-pack software compatible with STMCubeIDE.

Michael De Nil, co-founder and chief executive at Morse Micro, commented, “This kit brings together the low power, long-range benefits of Wi-Fi HaLow with versatile programming interfaces and sensors to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving IoT landscape.” Their partnership with Vantron Technology reflects a shared commitment toward driving innovation in wireless communication for both industrial and consumer applications.

Bo Wei, chief executive at Vantron Technologies, mentioned, “With these modules, access points, and camera, we are delivering solutions that allow customers to unlock the full potential of IoT applications.” He emphasized their focus on providing long-range connectivity with enhanced security and power efficiency.
