Vodafone Spain is partnering with mining company Geoalcali to deploy a private 5G network at a mining site in Navarra. This network will serve over 1,000 workers during construction and 800 during operational phases, providing them with voice and data services tailored to the demanding mining environment. The goal is to enhance safety and efficiency in the mine through secure communication links.

This private network will integrate 4G capabilities to connect equipment and machinery. It aims to enhance communication, real-time data access, and connectivity in remote areas of the mine where traditional communication methods may fall short. This infrastructure offers crucial features like the remote control of machinery, process automation, and real-time data management. These advancements are essential in optimizing mining operations and improving safety.

The new network will include redundant connectivity and fiber optic links, ensuring a robust communication setup. Vodafone Spain also plans to add modern technologies to the project, such as workplace digitalization, video surveillance, and drone monitoring. These solutions aim to mitigate risks in complex mining environments. Vodafone intends to apply this model to other industries, offering similar private network solutions.

Moreover, Vodafone Spain is in talks with MasOrange to create a joint venture for integrating mobile networks. This venture aims to enhance resource efficiency, slash operational costs, and attract financial backing for modernizing mobile infrastructure. Both operators are also setting up a joint fiber network, expected to become the largest in Europe, serving 12 million real estate units. The collaboration aims to boost Spain’s digital transformation and connectivity efforts.
