In a significant leap forward for telecommunications, Vodafone has claimed the distinction of executing the world’s first live network test utilizing 6 GHz spectrum, using a commercially available smartphone chipset. The test was conducted in Hannover, Germany, employing MediaTek’s M90 modem over a 200 MHz channel. This trial achieved impressive download speeds of 2.5 Gbps thanks to 5G carrier aggregation.

This demonstration highlights how harnessing larger 6 GHz bandwidth can double mobile data throughput without hiking up energy consumption. Such advancements are crucial as 5G and 6G technologies demand increasingly efficient spectrum use to cater to burgeoning network needs.
