Verizon Media Group has announced the launch of a new Yahoo app, available for iOS and Android. This multi-purpose app serves as a daily guide, providing breaking news, weather forecasts, the latest sport updates and much more. It creates a personalized information hub for the user, and is an effective amalgamation of the company’s other products, such as Mail, Search, Newsroom, Finance.

One can watch the latest and most popular videos from across the Yahoo network in the Watch tab, where Yahoo editors provide daily content. The app includes a flexible sign-in with a Yahoo Mail account or a non-Yahoo email address, including Gmail, Outlook and AOL.

If the user location data is enabled on the mobile device, it is possible to take advantage of coupons for local retail outlets, cafes and restaurants. There’s also a “Deal of the Day” from partners such as eBay, as well as the ability to browse for deals from retailers like Groupon, and receive notifications when deals are about to expire.

“Our new Yahoo app offers a seamless way to discover and engage with what consumers value most across our ecosystem, all in a convenient and customizable experience that continues to deepen our relationship with members,” said Tenni Theurer, GM of Yahoo Home. “Through content, commerce and community, we’re looking forward to continuing to unlock more value for our members through rewards, features and services for today, tomorrow, and beyond.”

With this new smartphone app, Verizon hopes to revert to the time when the Yahoo homepage was one of the most important and popular spots on the Internet. To see what Verizon is offering and have your say, you might consider downloading this new app, for the iPhone from the App Store, and for Android via Google Play.
