In a groundbreaking move, T-Mobile, known as the Un-carrier, has achieved a significant milestone by completing the world’s first six-carrier aggregation call using sub-6 GHz spectrum on its operational 5G network. Collaborating with industry leaders Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., T-Mobile reported astonishing speeds exceeding 3.6 Gbps during the test, showcasing its commitment to pushing the boundaries of wireless technology.
Ulf Ewaldsson, President of Technology at T-Mobile, expressed enthusiasm about the achievement, stating, “We are pushing the boundaries of wireless technology to offer our customers the best experience possible.” Ewaldsson emphasized the significance of T-Mobile’s position as the first and largest 5G standalone network provider in the country, enabling the deployment of capabilities like 5G carrier aggregation nationwide.
5G carrier aggregation allows T-Mobile to enhance speed and performance by combining multiple 5G channels. The recent test involved merging six 5G channels of mid-band spectrum, including two channels of 2.5 GHz Ultra Capacity 5G, two channels of PCS spectrum, and two channels of AWS spectrum, creating an effective 245 MHz of aggregated 5G channels.
T-Mobile’s leadership in 5G is underscored by the fact that it operates the nation’s largest, fastest, and most awarded 5G network. Covering over 330 million people across two million square miles, T-Mobile’s 5G network surpasses the coverage area of AT&T and Verizon combined. Furthermore, T-Mobile’s super-fast Ultra Capacity 5G extends to 300 million people nationwide, with over 2x more square miles of coverage compared to its closest competitors.
This achievement marks a significant leap forward in T-Mobile’s commitment to delivering an unparalleled wireless experience and solidifies its position as an innovator in the ever-evolving landscape of 5G technology.
