Nokia has clinched a major deal with Uzbekistan’s Perfectum, paving the way for the deployment of Central Asia’s inaugural 5G standalone (SA) network. Under this agreement, Nokia will be the exclusive supplier, furnishing Perfectum with a comprehensive end-to-end 5G SA network, including radio access, transport, core networks, and various network automation and service applications.

The heart of this network, encompassing core networks and applications, will operate on Red Hat OpenShift, a crucial component integrated into the Nokia Cloud Platform. The 5G SA network’s commercial rollout is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan’s capital, with plans to extend coverage nationwide within the subsequent two years.

The deployment is expected to unlock numerous benefits, catalyzing remote working, telemedicine, and smart city initiatives, while fostering new industry services and applications. These advancements are poised to nurture a digital ecosystem, propelling economic growth across Uzbekistan.

Perfectum’s CEO, Dmitry Shukov, emphasized Nokia’s pivotal role, affirming their trust in Nokia to spearhead Uzbekistan’s 5G era with a successful deployment and sustained support. Dr. Rolf Werner, Nokia’s Head of Europe, Mobile Networks, echoed this sentiment, expressing excitement about ushering in a cutting-edge 5G network that promises a superior experience for end-users, thereby catalyzing digital transformation in the nation.

The partnership aligns with the Uzbekistan government’s digital transformation agenda, representing a significant leap towards integrating advanced 5G technology into the nation’s infrastructure.
