Ericsson, a global leader in telecommunications technology, unveiled a strategic move on Monday, as it announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Umniah, a prominent telecom operator in Jordan. The collaboration aims to bolster Umniah’s 3G and 4G network infrastructure in major cities throughout the country.

Under the terms of the MoU, Umniah will leverage Ericsson Radio System products and solutions, renowned for their adaptability, to accommodate the evolving needs of its multi-band and multi-layer network architecture.

As part of the ambitious expansion initiative, Umniah will harness 5 MHz of newly acquired spectrum, coupled with an additional 5 MHz obtained through the repurposing of its existing 3G network spectrum. This augmentation will significantly enhance the capacity of its 4G network, enabling it to accommodate surging data traffic demands and extend coverage to underserved areas.

Faisal Qamhiyah, CEO of Umniah, underscored the transformative impact of the partnership, emphasizing that the infusion of additional spectrum and upgraded infrastructure will empower the telco to deliver an unparalleled mobile broadband experience to its customer base. He remarked, “We aim to significantly improve our network capacity, expand network coverage, and deliver superior user experience for our customers.”

This latest agreement marks the second collaborative effort between Umniah and Ericsson this year. In February, Umniah announced its adoption of Ericsson’s Cognitive Software AI solutions to optimize network performance and address critical network challenges in key strategic locations.

The partnership between Ericsson and Umniah signifies a commitment to advancing Jordan’s telecommunications landscape, aligning with the nation’s aspirations for digital transformation and connectivity proliferation. With Ericsson’s cutting-edge technology and Umniah’s strategic vision, the stage is set for a quantum leap in Jordan’s telecommunications capabilities, promising enhanced connectivity and improved user experiences for consumers across the country.
