At the Submarine Networks EMEA Conference in London, IOEMA Fibre introduced a new submarine cable that will link key markets across Northern Europe. The 1,400km cable, equipped with repeaters, will connect the UK, The Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, and Norway.

The main route of the cable runs from Dumpton Gap in the UK to Kristiansand in Norway, with additional branches extending to Eemshaven in The Netherlands, Wilhelmshaven in Germany, and Blaabjerg in Denmark. The multi-core cable, featuring 48 fibre pairs, will offer 27-29 Terabits per pair, providing a total capacity of at least 1.3 Pb/s.

Arelion has been chosen to manage the infrastructure on Denmark’s shores, enhancing connectivity to Esbjerg and Copenhagen. In Germany, EWE TEL and Relined Fiber Network are partnering to create backhaul routes to Hamburg and Berlin. Eurofiber and QTS are the landing parties in The Netherlands, utilizing existing infrastructure from the former TGN Northern Europe cable to connect to major cities like Groningen, Amsterdam, and Brussels.

Colt Technology Services will host the IOEMA cable at its landing site in Dumpton Gap. Eckhard Bruckschen, CTO of IOEMA Fibre Ltd, highlighted the need for diverse routes to meet the growing data demands in Northern Europe. He expressed pride in collaborating with their landing partners to enhance connectivity across Europe.

Annette Murphy, Chief Commercial Officer at Colt, emphasized the project’s significance in boosting capacity, performance, and resilience in the region. She expressed excitement about contributing to this transformative initiative, which aims to significantly improve digital connectivity in Northern Europe and beyond.
