TIM Brasil is partnering with Nokia for a significant 5G expansion project across 15 states in Brazil. This initiative, starting in January 2025, aims to enhance connectivity for both the general population and regional enterprises.

TIM will utilize equipment from Nokia’s 5G AirScale portfolio, which includes baseband, massive MIMO radios, and Remote Radio Head (RRH) products, all supported by Nokia’s ReefShark System-on-Chip (SoC) technology. Additionally, Nokia’s MantaRay Networks Management system, featuring AI functionalities, will aid in network monitoring and management.

In a statement, Marco Di Costanzo, CTO of TIM Brasil, highlighted the importance of this collaboration in strengthening their position as a 5G leader. “As 5G continues revolutionizing connectivity, we are committed to extending these advancements to more Brazilians,” he said.

TIM launched its 5G services in July 2022, starting in Brasilia and expanding to cities like Sao Paulo, Curitiba, and Rio de Janeiro. By June 2024, their 5G network encompassed 353 cities. Notably, the operator set a new speed record at their Rio de Janeiro lab, achieving peak download speeds of 11.6 Gbps during 5G-Advanced tests. The tests “proved the feasibility of achieving extraordinary performance,” according to TIM.

This ambitious project promises faster connectivity and an enhanced digital experience, marking an important milestone in Brazil’s telecommunications landscape.
