Deutsche Telekom has taken a strategic step in transforming its wholesale operations by merging its national and international divisions into a consolidated entity, T Wholesale. The move aims to address the rising demand for comprehensive telecom solutions on a global scale. This unification promises improved capabilities and enhanced service offerings for both local and international clients.

Kerstin Baumgart, managing director of T Wholesale, expressed optimism about the merger. “Our customers and partners will gain from our international scope and the synergies it brings. This new structure allows us to address the challenges of an ever-evolving market more effectively. By providing a unified portfolio of services in Germany and abroad, we aim to create a seamless customer experience. Our expertise, technology leadership, and innovative digital solutions are the foundation of sustainable partnerships with our clients.”

The newly formed T Wholesale division offers a vast range of services including extensive IPX and fiber optic networks, along with secure and innovative connectivity solutions. This includes Ethernet, Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), and advanced data center services. Furthermore, the unit will focus on cutting-edge initiatives like 5G standalone networks, network APIs, Edge Cloud solutions, and enhancements in digital communications.

With over 250 telecom providers within Germany and 900 international vendors, Deutsche Telekom ensures robust partnerships that are key to expanding infrastructure and advancing digital transformation. The integration allows for better access and solutions across regions, focusing on regulatory compliance and facilitating cross-border transactions.

Last October, Deutsche Telekom emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) alongside economies of scale as core elements of its growth strategy. “In recent years, our strategy has made us the undisputed number one in Europe. We have achieved or even exceeded nearly all of our targets and are now worth more than all our peers on our domestic continent combined. We will build on this position in the future, for example, by further intensifying the use of artificial intelligence,” said Tim Höttges, CEO of Deutsche Telekom, underscoring the company’s strategic vision.

As part of its future endeavors, Deutsche Telekom intends to leverage data-driven, automated processes, focusing on AI to streamline customer service interactions. By 2027, the telco aims to cover 95% of its European footprint with 5G and generate significant revenue streams, which may include expanding stakes in its ventures like T-Mobile US or repurchasing shares. With a focus on global economies of scale, Deutsche Telekom plans to enhance efficiency through globally-available services and IT platform API integration.
