A recent collaboration between Nokia and Zain KSA seeks to transform mobile connectivity indoors. Their joint project aims to optimize enterprise connectivity in Saudi Arabia by launching the region’s first 4G/5G Femtocell solution. This initiative addresses challenges in indoor mobile coverage, promising enhanced network efficiency for local businesses.
Nokia’s deployment plan includes 4G and 5G smart nodes, integrated with their proprietary IP Security Gateway and Femto Manager solutions. These innovations are expected to provide secure, consistent 4G and 5G network availability across business sites. Haitham Baba, representing Nokia Saudi Arabia, emphasized how the smart node solution will elevate customer experiences and improve network traffic management.
Likewise, Zain KSA’s Vice President, Abdullah AlHadlag, stated that this leap aligns with their goal of harnessing sustainable, future-ready technologies. It significantly contributes to Saudi Vision 2030 by fostering digital transformation throughout the Kingdom.
This collaboration between Nokia and Zain KSA is not an isolated project. Last year, Zain KSA announced an investment of SAR1.6 billion ($427 million) to advance its 5G network and digital services across Saudi Arabia. The expansion plan strives for 122-city-wide coverage, promising enhanced connectivity for approximately 66% of the populated areas.
Zain’s strategic roadmap covers expanding its 5G-Advanced (5G-A) services. There is a comprehensive plan in place to introduce 5G-A capabilities in the top eight cities by 2026. Notably, they aim to integrate this with IoT CCTV for public security governance using RedCap technology.
