Keysight Technologies and the University of Malaga (UMA) have launched a cutting-edge research laboratory focused on the development of 6G technology. The new lab is designed to push the frontiers of 6G innovation by providing solutions to key challenges and industry use cases.

The Malaga 6G Research and Innovation Lab will foster collaboration among industry leaders, academia, and research communities. It will participate actively in various consortia and industry groups. The facility includes three specialized areas: a monitoring space for tracking the Victoria Network, a 5G and 6G mobile network platform; a measurement area equipped with advanced hardware and software for testing; and an experience space showcasing 6G applications and technology demos.

Research will concentrate on areas such as developing new frequency technologies and components to meet increasing data demands, enhancing network performance using AI and machine learning, creating digital twins for risk-free testing, and exploring networked sensing for advanced applications. The lab will also focus on designing scalable network architectures and ensuring robust security and privacy.

Giampaolo Tardioli, Vice President of 6G and Next-Generation Technology at Keysight, emphasized that the lab will serve as a hub for innovation and collaboration, accelerating the development of technologies that will shape the future of connectivity. Pedro Merino, Director of ITIS at UMA, highlighted that the lab positions both organizations as leaders in 6G research and development.

In addition, Keysight’s collaboration with NVIDIA on the 6G Research Cloud Platform will provide researchers with advanced tools for developing AI-driven radio access network technologies, further supporting the lab’s work in shaping the future of communication.
