Korean telecommunications giant SK Telecom has introduced a significant upgrade to its AI agent, adot, by integrating Google’s cutting-edge language model, Gemini 2.0 Flash. This integration enhances the agent’s capabilities, promising to transform how users interact with AI.
With this upgrade, users can access an expanded selection of AI models across five prominent global platforms: SKT’s A.X, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini. In total, twelve AI models have been made available, reflecting a substantial broadening of options for users seeking diverse AI solutions.
Gemini 2.0 Flash, launched by Google in February, marks a leap in AI technology with improvements in both speed and performance. It boasts twice the response speed of its predecessor, Pro 1.5, along with enhanced answer reliability. This is achieved by integrating real-time search capabilities and direct navigation to source pages, offering more accurate and contextual answers to users.
In the words of Kim Yong-hoon, head of SKT’s ‘adot’ business division, “adot is the best platform for comparing and utilizing various global AI models, from A.X to ChatGPT. We will continue expanding our AI offerings and improving user convenience to enhance the overall experience.”
The expansion doesn’t stop at the languages’ capabilities. SKT aims to integrate Google’s latest models into its AI infrastructure continually. Plans are already in motion to enhance the AI agent by incorporating Perplexity Sonar Pro and GPT o3-mini, which are particularly skilled in solving complex logical problems and advanced mathematical equations. This will not only broaden the functional scope of adot but significantly improve its problem-solving abilities.
Additionally, SK Telecom has its sights set on international markets, especially North America, with the planned beta release of an AI tool called “Aster”. Aster is being positioned as an agentic AI, which goes beyond simple Q&A functions. It aims to understand user intentions, thereby setting and executing tasks on their behalf. This new AI agent, built on generative AI technologies, collaborates with Perplexity for conversational search capabilities, centering on life management and offering users personalized planning and execution functionalities.
In its continued evolution, SK Telecom has reorganized its operations around AI. Focused divisions, such as AI Transformation (AIX) and Global Personal AI Agent (GPAA), strategically align with its ambition to become a global AI leader. Since 2023, the company has been working towards strengthening its AI competences and collaborating with partners worldwide, underscoring its commitment to AI innovation and adoption on a global scale.
