In a significant announcement, the GSMA has revealed that artificial intelligence and mobile technologies will inject a potential $2 trillion into China’s economy by 2030. This contribution is poised to represent a remarkable 8.3% of the nation’s GDP. The GSMA, ahead of its Post-MWC Sharing Event in Beijing, shared these insights.

The Mobile Economy China 2025 report lays down that 5G is a key player in this forecasted economic surge. The manufacturing sector, responsible for 40% of the projected growth, symbolizes China’s commitment to technology-driven transformation. The report highlights the country’s advancements with over half of its mobile connections now on 5G networks.

The incorporation of AI in enterprise solutions is a game-changer. Operators have embedded AI into solutions, supported by 5G Standalone and 5G-Advanced networks. As Director General Vivek Badrinath of GSMA pointed out, “China continues to show how advanced 5G services, mobile innovation, AI, and digital services can have a real economic impact.” The emphasis is clear: AI integration is at the core of intelligent solutions across varied industries.

In a bid for enhanced cross-industry collaboration, the GSMA has engaged with Chinese tech firms like Bytedance, iFlytek, JD.COM, Lenovo, and Xiaomi. Moreover, a focus on gender diversity was highlighted with a ‘Women for Tech’ initiative led by CMO Lara Dewar in Beijing.

Projected figures for 2024 place mobile technologies’ economic value generation at $1.2 trillion, a solid 6.2% of China’s GDP. The mobile internet user base is set to expand, reaching 1.22 billion by 2030, with data consumption per connection expected to soar significantly.

Simultaneously, the GSMA Open Gateway initiative, a standardized API framework, receives continued support from all 14 Greater China operators, including China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom.
