Joining hands with the Innovation Park Artificial Intelligence (IPAI), Deutsche Telekom aims to shape AI development and application across various sectors. The IPAI, backed by the state of Baden-Württemberg, the Dieter Schwarz Foundation, and numerous private and public partners, brings together businesses, policymakers, and researchers to explore AI in real-world scenarios. Currently hosting over 70 organizations, its goal is to establish a robust European AI hub for responsible deployment.

Deutsche Telekom intends to leverage this platform to apply its expertise in deploying AI within network operations, customer service, and enterprise products. Their primary objective focuses on scalable and secure solutions catering to both business and public needs.

The upcoming IPAI campus, located in Heilbronn, spans 30 hectares and aims to employ over 5,000 workers. This site will feature data centers, laboratories, and collaborative workspaces. The initial phase is set to open by the end of this year.

Klaus Werner, Director Business Customers at Telekom Deutschland, emphasizes the collaborative effort in deploying AI: “AI reaches its full potential only when we collectively bring it into practice. Europe needs to invest in AI now. That’s why initiatives like IPAI are essential: for the digital sovereignty of Germany and Europe, enabling them to further expand their independence and drive innovation.”

This strategic move follows Deutsche Telekom’s previous engagement with the Global Telco AI Alliance. This collaboration, alongside SK Telecom, e&, Singtel, and SoftBank, focuses on developing Large Language Models (LLMs) tailored for telecommunications. These models seek to enhance customer interactions through digital tools such as chatbots and digital assistants. These efforts aim to cater specifically to the individual needs of the five companies involved, covering a customer base of approximately 1.3 billion people spread over 50 countries.
