Vodafone Idea has expanded its 5G network to Jaipur, as part of its broader deployment strategy targeting key cities in 17 priority telecom circles across India. The Indian telecom operator, part of a joint venture between the UK’s Vodafone Group and India’s Aditya Birla Group, aims to enhance connectivity in Jaipur, also known as the Pink City, and beyond.

This roll-out follows comprehensive upgrades to its 4G network in Rajasthan, with additional spectrum installations in the 900 MHz and 2.1 GHz bands, increasing signal capacity and speed. Vodafone Idea has partnered with Ericsson to deploy more energy-efficient and lightweight hardware.

Alongside hardware improvements, Vodafone Idea has incorporated AI-driven self-organizing network (SON) technology to enhance operational efficiency. This initiative relies on a non-standalone 5G architecture, which integrates 5G with 4G infrastructure, allowing for a phased adoption of advanced capabilities.

By launching its 5G services later than competitors, Vodafone Idea capitalizes on cost efficiencies through newer technology. As part of this strategy, the company employs Disaggregated Radio Access Network (RAN) systems that significantly reduce deployment and maintenance costs while bringing new service capabilities.

The recent upgrades also include an expansion of its 4G capacity, boosting coverage to 84% of India from 77% in March 2024. This widespread coverage underscores Vodafone Idea’s commitment to robust network provisioning in its key markets.
