This week, Orange Business made a significant move by integrating OneWeb’s satellite technology into its SafetyCase communications system. This system acts as a rapid-response solution, creating a reliable temporary Wi-Fi network during emergencies when traditional networks fail. Such innovative use of hybrid networks, utilizing both satellite and mobile technology, aims to address crucial service interruptions.

SafetyCase comes in two configurations. The ‘Mobile Unit,’ is ready in seconds, and the ‘Crisis Center,’ can deploy in 30 minutes providing up to 20 hours of connectivity. The solution’s previous success was noted during severe incidents in Valencia and Mayotte, demonstrating its practical application.

Incorporating OneWeb’s low Earth orbit satellite network ensures extensive coverage across France. This enhances SafetyCase’s ability to provide necessary connectivity anywhere, regardless of existing infrastructure collapse. Moreover, the partnership emphasizes European sovereignty. Users, particularly emergency services, gain trust from relying on a European satellite partner, as highlighted by Nassima Auvray, Defense and Security Director at Orange Business.

A longstanding collaboration, initiated in 2023, shows Orange’s commitment to integrating satellite capabilities, crucial for both fronthaul and backhaul across its global network. This year, Orange expanded its partnership with OneWeb, highlighting the growing reliance on satellite technology to improve communication infrastructure resilience.

Blending terrestrial and satellite technologies offers unique advantages. The pivotal ability to quickly reestablish networks during disasters aids in coordination, treatment, and decision-making efforts. However, complexities arise in seamlessly integrating these networks, demanding robust systems and well-coordinated operations.

In summary, the collaboration between Orange and OneWeb signifies vital progress in sustainable emergency solutions. As technology advances, these partnerships become key to ensuring global communication stability in difficult situations.
