VodafoneThree recently announced an initiative that brings 400 customer service jobs back to the UK. This decision comes after the merger of Vodafone and Three, marking a shift from previous outsourcing practices. These roles, previously handled in India, are now moving to Belfast and Sheffield. The operator aims to have these positions filled within two years, a plan initially set forth in June. The roles will be managed by Vodafone’s partner, Concentrix, which already has facilities in these cities.
Recruitment has already started, with new hires undergoing training in Belfast. These positions focus on specialist care and sales regarding Vodafone and Three services. The company mentioned a particular emphasis on training staff to assist vulnerable customers, aligning with regulator Ofcom’s recommendations.
Jon Shaw, Consumer Operations at VodafoneThree, commented, “We firmly believe in having care teams where our customers are, and that means having teams based across the UK.” This philosophy drives the recruitment of additional team members, complementing an already expansive team in Stoke and Glasgow.
The merger has enabled VodafoneThree to undertake one of the UK’s largest network expansions, reportedly creating up to 13,000 jobs over the project’s life. While 400 customer service roles seem modest in comparison, they signal a positive move for the local economy.
The announcement underscores VodafoneThree’s commitment to investing in the UK workforce. As the merger’s effects unfold, the telecom community eagerly anticipates further job creation announcements and improvements in customer service infrastructure.
